This third part covers where to pursue foreign language courses in Delhi. There are various Colleges, Universities, Foreign language institutes and Embassy affiliated cultural centres offering several Foreign Language classes in Delhi.

There are varied of good reasons to learn a foreign language in India. Learning a new language is not easy. It’s going to take a lot of time, persistence, patience and discipline but there are plenty of advantages.

Most people choose to learn a new language because they are looking for a way to add something to their lives, and on the other hand, some people choose to learn a new language for reason as simple as job & business opportunities or emigration to other countries or even purely as a hobby and interest including me. Whatever the reason may be, learning a foreign language has lots of benefits.

Why and Where to pursue Foreign Language courses in Delhi ?

If you want planning to learn any Foreign Language, Then Delhi is the best place to study in India. Delhi is now becoming the next foreign language hub where people from different states come to learn so many different languages.

Delhi is probably only city in the country where one can pursue Foreign language classes is over 20 Colleges. In Delhi University, There are many colleges such as Hansraj, St. Stephen’s College, Daulat Ram, Zakir Husain, Jesus & Mary, Hindu College, Gargi College, Ramjas, Lady Shri Ram College to name just a few with a varied range of foreign language programs in French, Spanish, German, Russian, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, etc.

There are many Universities such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia that offers Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Degree level course in BA, MA, M.Phil, Ph.D in different languages. 

Delhi University’s Arts faculty through Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, Department of Slavonic & Finno-ugrian studies, Department of Arabic, Department of Persian, Department of African studies, Department of Buddhist Studies and Department of East Asian Studies offers courses in dozens of European, West Asian, East Asian languages.

Delhi University is the only University in the country where one can pursue courses in Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Romanian languages.

Jawaharlal Nehru’s School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies (SLL&CS) through various departments offer a variety of programmes in different languages.

JNU offers Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma of Proficiency programmes, BA (Hons.), MA and MPhil/PhD programmes in various foreign languages like Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Russian, Spanish, etc.

Jamia Millia Islamia through five departments (Faculty of Humanities and Languages, Department of Arabic, Department of Persian, MMAJ Academy of International Studies, and Centre for Spanish and Latin American Studies) offers Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Degree level course in BA, MA, M.Phil, Ph.D in different languages. 

Jamia Millia Islamia is the only University in India where one can learn Central Asian languages such as Kazakhi (Kazakh), Turkemenian (Turkmen), Kyrgyz, Uzbek and Turkish.

IGNOU through Delhi centre also offers few language courses in French, Arabic, Russian, Persian, German, etc. In Addition, one can also pursue courses in a varied range of Colleges and Universities in NCR region i.e. nearby cities like Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, etc.

Several Embassy’s Cultural Centre are also offering a variety of language courses in Delhi. In India, except few like Alliance Française, Goethe-Institut Max Mueller Bhavan, Camões Institute and Russian Centre for Science and Culture, all have only one centre located in the heart of the capital city i.e. New Delhi.

If you are planning to appear for any Foreign language proficiency Test such as (French DELF, Spanish DELE, German Goethe-Zertifikat, Russian TORFL, Italian Proficiency TestChinese HSK, Japanese JLPT, Korean TOPIK), then studying at Delhi is the right choice since the Capital city has all the examination centre for various languages.

Delhi is probably only city in India where one can study uncommon and not so popular European Languages like Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian languages or Asian Languages like Mongolian, Bahasa Indonesian, Turkish, Kazakhi, Turkemenian, Kyrgyz or Uzbek.

Delhi and nearby Cities in NCR like Noida, Gurugram, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, etc. offers a wide range of career options and Job opportunities in the field of Foreign language. Not only you will get enough exposure but after completing courses, you can apply for a plethora of Jobs in a varied range of languages.

  1. Hey sir howdy! This is ayush dadhich here. I’ve passed 12th class in 2017. I’ve learnt spoken english course from kota (raj.) from MAGPIE During 2018 and I’m fond of English too. Now I want to do French course. Which courses better/should be done? Degree or diploma and when it’s admissions get open. This is my humble requisition to you.

    1. I need more information to answer. 1) Where you want to study? 2) Are you pursuing any Bachelor program? 3) Looking only for Universities or Pvt Institutes are also fine though fees will be on higher side?

      1. 1) I can go anywhere what would u suggest sir 2) No sir, I’m not doing anything 3) I thing institute is gonna be good for me because i think they give better attention to students than universities. Please suggest to me

  2. Sir I have completed B.COM and now I want to do language course so which is more beneficial is it short term course or degree course?

    1. Degree level course is better. Since, you have already completed graduation. you can join any private institute. Short-term courses are not enough for career. Depends on the language, it will take 2-3 years to reach advanced level, prerequisite for most jobs these days.
