Language Career in Export and Import Industry

Career in Export and Import

The world has become smaller and smaller due to its digitized global economy.

These have opened up a tremendous opportunity in businesses involving various forms of importation and exportation.

The majority of India’s giant corporations now prefer to hire people who can speak new or more foreign languages other than their native language.

Undoubtedly, the impact of global economic growth and bilateral interaction under the innovative forces of technology has made the world a global village.

This new trend has further opened up enormous investment and job opportunities for career-minded.

People can easily participate in business ventures involving the export and import of goods and services from India to other places.

Most of the MNCs and business organizations — from medium to large-scale businesses — now prefer to employ the services of employees with foreign languages than people who speak only their mother tongue.

For example, your ability to speak Mandarin Chinese will present you with a brilliant career opportunity.

You can work with a company engaged in importing or exporting goods or services from China to India.

Or even from India to China, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and more.

Companies in the export business will find your proficiency and qualification in Mandarin perfect for their business.

It is because the places mentioned above are where the language is widely spoken or spoken as a first or second language.

You can also engage these companies and act as an intermediary or their representative in India.

It is something you’re always going to get favored from all angles. It is a win-win situation for you at any time and in any place.

Demand for Language Experts in International Business

Export Import for Language Learners

On the one hand, many International companies are setting their regional offices in India.

And on another side, many Indian companies are looking to expand into other countries.

The knowledge will allow you to showcase yourself as a global employee.

It helps find foreign language jobs in multiple international companies and build a meaningful career in export and import industries.

Trade is the engine of the global economy.

Today, there is an increasing demand for Indians fluent in one of the foreign languages to establish, coordinate, deal with, and manage business overseas.

Due to language barriers, many Indian companies face challenges to expand business abroad or export their products.

Only 20% of the world’s population speaks English (Native and Non-Native).

In crucial sectors with export potential such as manufacturing, agricultural products, IT, leather goods, textiles, gems & precious metals, pharma, engineering goods, petroleum products, etc., gaps in understanding each other due to language barriers are holding back firms from trading the world.

Many export houses and Indian firms are looking for people who can speak foreign languages like French, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, etc., eloquently.

There are also some temporary or contractual options for freelance language specialists who can work from home or remote locations.

The work would involve calling companies, telephonic conversation with them, managing queries, assisting in sales coordination, and even visiting those countries for business purposes.

Many Portuguese, Spanish speaking countries like South and Central America, French speakers from Africa, China, Bahasa-speaking Indonesia, the Arabic population in Middle-east, German-speaking central Europe are specifically seeking bilateral cooperation with India.

This approach is opening a world of possibilities for many Indian companies.

French and Spanish are the two most popular languages in international businesses.

Many Indian and MNCs are trying to expand their footprints in French-speaking Africa, Europe, and other parts of the world.

You can find a plentiful amount of opportunities in the export sector.

The knowledge of Spanish puts you in a firm position to succeed in making an astonishing career in export and import business to Latin America and the U.S., where it is the second most important language after English.

Driven by these global trends, the world is slowly moving away from being an English-dominated work culture.

Apart from French and Spanish, there is a growing demand for Mandarin, Russian, German, Arabic, Portuguese, Italian, Korean, and Japanese speakers.

It is always better to choose a foreign language with more countries as a de-facto language, or your company is likely to do business.

Clearly, there is a rising demand for foreign language skills.

Mastering a language could open the doors to job opportunities and career in export and import sectors and international trade & business.

Sir, I’m an IT professional with 4 years of experience. I would like to change my career to language-related. On average, how much could I get? If I need jobs at consulates or embassy, what extra course should I have to study other than French?
    Thanks in advance

If you start from scratch with no experience, the salary won’t be that good. Changing the career is not always the right strategy, but if you wish, you can pick a language and study until you achieve a meaningful proficiency like advanced level. Later, once you find opportunities involving languages, you can contemplate a career shift. Embassy’s positions are limited. But there are few, and it varies from IT and HR to support and sales marketing.

    Hello Sir,

I am currently working in Amazon as an International customer service associate and pursuing French from Alliance Française from Delhi. I would like to know the career opportunities I can get after completing the A1 level, but I would want to avoid doing a night shift job. Please advise and guide me about the options I can get to grow.

There is no professional opportunity after A1. Once you complete at least B1 though B2 is better, you can work in a range of fields like teaching, day-shift support, jobs in MNC that require French, export houses that deal with Francophone countries, content writing, to name a few.

Yes, you can find some jobs in companies that deal with Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. After retirement, it is usually challenging to get regular work. But you can work as a freelance for as long as your health permits, and you get new opportunities.

MBA is not compulsory but preferred for most of the jobs. You can explore the possibilities in companies that deal with Japan or Japanese businesses. Making a list of Japanese companies in the textile industry can be a good start.

MBA in International Business or marketing along with knowledge of language concerned plays a vital role to get high-paying employment in the export-import industry. Yes, the jobs are indeed stressful (based on my interaction with many). In sales, there is no upside limit since it is all about targets. The initial salary depends on the company and the candidate profile.

To become a successful German interpreter, you need to achieve near-native level German language proficiency. After 12th, you can try 5 year BA and MA in German at Mumbai University through the Department of German.

You can choose either one since both countries have plenty of good Universities for MBA program. Quality of Education is more or less same and extra weightage should be give to the University rather country. Language is important in either country to get Jobs after completing the MBA. Thus, you can start learning French or German once admission is done or once you decide the destination.

Currently, French offers more opportunity but a little overcrowded too. Mandarin is also a good choice but that will take a long time to learn properly. French is a safe choice between two.

The Italian language proficiency pairs well with International trade, sales, and marketing. Plus, Italian provides an academic boost for those studying art, fashion, luxury cars, history, designing, culinary arts, humanities, law, robotics, political science, religion, and many more.
