Which Foreign Language to Choose?
Some languages are valuable because they are challenging to learn, but the number of people proficient in them is very low.
Other languages are fueled by purposes like emigration to a particular country, diplomatic reasons, learning for a hobby, or looking for job opportunities in a specific booming industry or nation.
Many other foreign languages are less taught languages for varied reasons.
Asian languages such as Turkish, Persian, Bahasa Indonesia, Tibetan, and Mongolian are some examples.
Plus, Eastern European languages like Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Romanian, Polish, Hungarian, and Central European like Dutch, Catalan, African Swahili, and Scandinavian also fall in a similar category.
Nordic languages like Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian are the most natural tongues for English speakers to learn.
Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese are the most straightforward languages to acquire for Indians compared to French, German, or Russian.
According to the FSI study, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic are some of the hardest languages to master.
Spanish is the best choice if you are exploring an uncomplicated international language to study with an excellent career scope.
If your job or business requires knowledge of any unpopular language, that would be a different ball game.
Otherwise, the practical use and benefits are not as high as those of French, Spanish, German, Japanese, or Chinese.
All languages matter!
Therefore, always choose the language according to your career goal or interest, not the most popular and prominent. You will never regret learning a foreign language.

In India, there are plenty of language-related jobs. So, you can make a full-fledged career in a particular language. As far as abroad is concerned, language plays a vital but secondary role. It helps to converse, gets some extra points to get a visa/pr, and makes it easier to get a job. But you do need primary skills to land employment.

Hello sir,
I passed 12th this year. I take Bsc honours and I want to do a language course with it. I am interested in korean and japanese. I am confused about what should I take Korean or Japanese? Which one is more beneficial? I am also confused about where I should pursue this course. I was thinking of learning Korean at the Korean cultural centre in Delhi but the admissions are closed. Should I wait for next year or should I look for another institute this year?
Both are OK, and you can pick either one depending on your purpose and interest. From the job scope, the Japanese offer more opportunities. However, more people are interested in Korean these days because of Kpop, Kdrama, and cultural aspects. If you want to study at KCC, you can apply early next year or try other options in Delhi.

Hello sir,
I’m currently pursuing a BA in political science from Delhi university, and I think learning a foreign language will be beneficial for my future. But I’m in a big dilemma as to which language I should opt for. I had learned French for four years when I was in school, but now I am also interested in learning Korean or Japanese. I’m confused about whether I should go for French as I have a little past knowledge of that, or whether I should go as per my new interest. I want to learn the language I’m interested in, but I also want to look for the one which will be better for career perspectives. Though Korean and Japanese languages are currently gaining a lot of attention nowadays, blogs everywhere suggest that they are not very useful. Can you please share your personal opinion or suggestion for me?
Interest and career are two separate things, and it isn’t easy to find a particular language that fits both criteria. Having said that, if you already know some French, continue with that. Once you achieve some meaningful competency level and earn some recognized certification, you can contemplate East Asian languages like Japanese or Korean. Between the two, the Japanese offer more job possibilities. But these days, Korean is popular due to K-Pop, K-Drama, and K-movies, and other cultural aspects. If you still have some questions, connect me on Instagram.
Hello sir,
Sir, I have read your blogs, and they are literally helpful. Thank you for writing to them. I’m in 12th, and I am interested in learning different languages. I am interested in Korean and German. I love Korean, but its popularity in India is low as compare to German. So, I am confused between these two. Personally, I love Korean more, but I have to see job opportunities too because of personal reasons. Can you please help me telling which language will be better for a job opportunity in India?
If you like Korean, as you said, you should learn that only. Job possibilities are limited to Korean, but the number of people who speak good Korean in India is also fewer. Think about some combination that also includes the Korean language and some other in-demand streams. And I’m sure in the long run you will find something worthwhile.
Respected Sir. I’m a Political Science graduate student. I’m learning foreign languages and want to become a Foreign Language Freelancer or Translator. Do I need a specific course for freelancers or Translators?

Could you give suggestions for me which language is best for job opportunities and match with my bachelor degree. Which language should I learn to get a job in India because I’m a foreigner? Thank you, Sir.
Since French is more widely spoken, thus, it will be more beneficial. German and Japanese are also good choices in various sectors but offer fewer advantages compared to French in international relations.
Hi sir,
I have just given final year exams from IGNOU for b.com, but now I want to change my career. So, I filled the form for Russian and Korean languages for an intensive diploma (full time), and I got selected in both the languages. So now, I am very confused about which language to choose, so I can get a high paying job after completing my M.A. in one of these languages. Could you please suggest me something, sir?
Thank You.
Are you planning to do an MA after doing an intensive diploma? If yes, then MA in Korean is only offered by JNU and CUJ, whereas Russian is available in over a dozen universities. Career-wise, both are low supply and low demand languages. So, you can pick either one based on interest or understanding.
Hello, Sir, I have been working in the BPO sector for over 13 years now. I am looking to learn a foreign language and still unable to decide which language to go for. I have narrowed my search to FRENCH, GERMAN, and SPANISH. I have the institutes and brochures everything. If you could please help in deciding which is the best as I am also looking in growth prospects as well.
Understanding that French and German is being taught from schools nowadays. But as I have been in BPO sectors so if you could help me in finding out the best language in demand in BPO sectors. I will then start my journey with the language.
In the BPO industry, there is a demand for all three languages. But if we consider popularity-wise, Spanish is the most popular followed by French and German. In other sectors, the choice will vary. Also, if you have an interest in a particular one, then you should pick that one. Whatever you pick, you won’t regret it.
Sir,
I just passed the 12th. Now, I’m thinking about what to choose after +2. Lastly, I decided to take BBA/BCom and take a PG in a foreign language. Sir, can you please tell me which UG should I choose between BBA/BCOM, and is there any scope choosing PG in a foreign language.
Yes, you can pursue PG in a foreign language provided that you have prior knowledge in the same. The PG entrance question paper will be in the same language and will cover the upper intermediate level. For that, you can study that language, along with your bachelor program. As far as BBA and BCom is concerned, it is quite subjective and difficult to suggest. Perhaps, you can seek advice from a career counselor or your existing teachers/mentors.
Hello sir. My name is Anurag. I have completed my BA program graduation from Delhi university. Now I want to do a language course and I want to know which language is best for me. I want to make a career in the language sector.

Hello Sir, I am working in DHL logistics (Mumbai). Can you suggest me any language when it comes to logistics? I want to learn a language, and I am thinking about German or Spanish.
There is no particular language that mixes well logistic sector. You can pick one of the popular ones, and German and Spanish are good choices.
Hello Sir,
I am working as a Freelance Digital Marketer for the last 2 years. Post Covid19 global scenario doesn’t look promising for freelancers in the digital marketing field. Suggest me a language which will be supportive of my current profession as well as a separate career option as interpreter/translator. I am a bit confused between Spanish and Japanese. Spanish looks easier to learn and adapt, but there will be tough competition for the job. Japanese is hard to learn but seems promising career point of view. Please help.
Thanks.
To become a Japanese translator or interpreter, it will take substantial time and effort. Will you able to support and study for the next 4-5 years? If yes, go with it. Otherwise, stick to one of the European languages like Spanish. The careers involving Japanese are also competitive, but some of the jobs are lucrative.
Hello Sir,
My kid is doing 5th Std and interested to learn an additional foreign language. Which one would you recommend out of French, German, and Japanese?
All three are good choices, and that’s why I recommended these three languages in the top 5. It is an individual perspective based on how you perceive it.
Sir, I want to learn a foreign language, but I am a little bit confused about what language to choose. I am interested in the Korean language. I am doing maths (h) From DU. But as I have seen, Chinese and Japanese are better languages than Korean. As per the career perspective, does Korean will be good for me (with maths (h) degree)? I also want to pursue an MSc degree. Will it be possible to do both the thing simultaneously. Please, sir, reply.
Maths, or for that matter, M.Sc. won’t make any major difference as far as the choice of language is concerned. More job opportunities also mean more competition. You can make a successful career in any language provided that you tick all the right boxes. Pick the one as per your interest and understanding. Don’t chase for better or best language, because it doesn’t exist, at least not in my knowledge. Good Luck Anurag!
Sir, so learning Korean worth it or not? Means is it beneficial, and can you tell me about the opportunity, field, jobs after studying Korean? I am interested in this language but wanted to invest my time in the language which will provide me with more opportunities. So, please tell me about the benefits and fields demanding the Korean language. Please sir help, and thanks for the earlier reply.
Yes, Korean is a good choice and offers plenty of career avenues.
Thanks a lot, sir. You are great, thanks for guiding to all needy ones please keep up the good work. Can I ask where you take classes if someone wants to study from you?
Thanks for your kind words. I take most of the classes in Noida.
Sir, I’m in the final year of my graduation in B.Com from DU. This July, I’ll be, hopefully, joining for M.Com. But I want to pursue some language course along with it. Is Arabic worth it? As of now, I don’t have any career perspective behind it but if there is any help in that matter, it may surely be good.
DU provides a part-time language course. Is it worth it? If not, where should I learn from? And what level should I learn up to to be able to communicate well enough? Any other suggestion regarding any language or career scope is wholeheartedly welcome.
Yes, a language course will add more value to your C.V. Arabic is ok, but there are better options like French, Spanish, German, Japanese, or Mandarin. The 3-year Advanced Diploma at DU is a good option. If you wish to learn in a better and on fast-track (though little expensive), you can consider private institutes. You can find a list of recommended institutes at Language Courses in Delhi.
Learning the Japanese language would be beneficial or not? And I want to be a polyglot in at least 20 languages and I know 4 languages. Can I study 3 languages at once from a university?
Yes, there are plenty of Advantages of Learning Japanese. No, you cannot learn 3 languages simultaneously at a University. Even if you can, I won’t suggest either. Spreading yourself thin is not the right language learning approach. It also depends on your goal. If you just want to gain elementary knowledge in several languages, you can learn as many languages as you wish. If, however, your purpose is to achieve advanced proficiency so that it can be helpful in professional life, I would suggest stick with 1 or 2. One life is not enough to master several foreign languages. I can say this after studying various languages for over 15 years and interacting with many polyglots.
Sir, I have completed 3 years diploma in Hotel Management. I also have more than 10 years of experience. Which foreign language should I learn?
There is no particular language that is best with Hotel Management. You can consider French, Spanish, or German if your time-frame is less than 3 years.
Hi Sir,
I have completed the 3rd level in Japanese and wanted to pursue another foreign language. My aim is to become a translator/interpreter in the near future. Say in the next 1 year or so. So along with Japanese, could you please let me know which would be the better option to pursue currently, according to you? I am having difficulty in choosing between German, French, and Mandarin.
To become a successful translator/Interpreter, you need near-native proficiency, something like JLPT N2/N1. It takes substantial time. Learning one language up to the advanced/proficient level is better than knowing multiple languages until intermediate or elementary. Therefore, I won’t suggest choosing another language. You can continue with the Japanese to achieve N1 or MA in Japanese.
Hello Sir,
I’m a PG graduate currently working in a top graded MNC. My passion is to pursue a foreign language, and after a long discussion with colleagues, I’ve planned to take two as an option. 1. Mandarin 2. Spanish. I don’t want to mess myself with both and would like to learn either one of the languages fluently.
Now, I’ve no idea how the future will prolong based on these languages. So thinking in the long run, please suggest to me which language to take up and by taking it how I can grow the ladder forecasting towards my career.
Both options are good. You can choose either one. If your time horizon is less than 2-3 years, I would suggest picking Spanish, otherwise Mandarin. The language skills can be useful if work requires dealing with people/businesses of the country where the language is spoken.
Can you kindly tell me which language is good for the IT field – French or German? I work as a software engineer in India. I want to apply for IT jobs in Europe.
Both Languages are equally crucial in the IT sector and widely spoken in Europe. You can pick whatever you wish or as per your understanding.
Sir, I am M.com postgraduate, and i wish to learn a foreign language. So can you suggest me which language to learn or can you tell me which language is best for a career option?
You can choose one between the top 5 choices mentioned in this article. There is no best language, as every language is useful for certain kinds of jobs. If your time-frame is limited to 2 to 3 years, choose between Spanish, German, or French.
Hello sir,
Very informative article. Thank you. I am an Electronics and Instrumentation engineer, a Japanese Interpreter and Translator with 7 years experience in Manufacturing and Automobile industries. JLPT N2 certified.
I would like to learn a European language French/German/Spanish. My brother works and keeps moving between the USA and Canada. I would like to go there and utilize my Japanese language skills and at the same time would like to utilize a European language mostly in an Automobile or manufacturing sector.
Also, are there companies that look for Interpreters and Translators who know 2 foreign languages, in India or any other country? So which would be the best to learn out of these 3?
French will be more useful in Canada, whereas Spanish is more widespread in the USA. You can pick one of these two languages. Yes, I am sure many companies hire translators and interpreters in multiple languages.
Dear sir, I am a BSc graduate and now I am interested in language courses and want to pursue a career. Can you suggest which is best either German or Japanese as per job opportunities?
If you have an interest in any particular language, go with it. Otherwise, both are equally good from a career perspective.
Hi Sir,
I am working as a clerk in an autonomous government body for almost 5 years. I have a great interest in foreign languages and started learning as a hobby. I’m learning and understand Turkish, Persian, and Spanish. I didn’t consider them as a career. I had taken the English speaking course, and now my level is intermediate. I am considering a career change as a language expert, and I gained an interest in the Korean language.
Still, I read many blogs that Korean is not good to learn. If I consider a career change now, I am skeptical about which language I should choose as admission is going to start in November at the Korean Cultural Center. Please help me to choose, and the thing is that after reading those discouraging blogs for not learning Korean but I want to learn it. I am really confused.
If you wish to learn Korean, go ahead, and achieve your goal. The best language is the one you like the most. As far as Korean is concerned, it is a low-supply and low-demand language. It means there are fewer job possibilities, but there is also limited competition. I believe all languages are equally good, and it is an individual perspective. That’s why I usually don’t recommend any particular language if the purpose is not well-defined.
I think if you want to learn any foreign language for the best career option, then you should choose Chinese or Japanese, but if you have the interest to know about the great culture and rich literature of any other country, then you must learn the Spanish language.
Sir, I am currently doing BCom but want to pursue language as a career. I want to take admission in JNU, but I read in one of your comments that 80% of the seats are reserved for this year or last year pass outs. So is it difficult for me to get admission in jnu? If yes, then what are other options for doing ba in any reputed institution from a career perspective?
Since only 20% of seats are open to candidates who passed 12th 2 or more years, thus, it is, indeed, very challenging. Once you decide the languages, you can shortlist Universities with a BA in language of your choice (if you wish to do a full-time program). There are several options. And then you can apply next year accordingly.
Sir, can you suggest some good universities for Japanese, French or German where such a reservation does not exist. Does this type of reservation followed by every government institute, or is it just by JNU?
Reservation exists in every Government University, especially for degree courses. There are 100’s of reputed private institutions offering quality teaching even better than many government Colleges, and with no reservation. With so many choices, it would be challenging to recommend anything meaningful until you have something specific question. I’d suggest you take your time and read more. If you have any doubt, you can always ask here 🙂
Hi sir, I’m BCom student I want to do a foreign language. One thing I want to tell you that I’m doing Spanish. 6 months before I left this language I’m not interested in Spanish, so I want to do some other foreign language. Is it beneficial for me? As I’m BCom or commerce sector. Sir, please tell me.
It can be useful depending on the job profile and your objectives. Firstly, you need to pick a language that interests you. Then, irrespective of career prospect, try to reach an advanced level. And one day, you will surely find some possibilities!
I need embassy French language so please tell me the best option?
Are you looking for French courses at the embassy of France? Alliance Française is offering French programs.
Good Morning sir!
My name is Sagar, and I have always wanted to learn a foreign language as a hobby. I have always been fascinated with the Russian language. The catch is, I have graduated in Engineering (ECE), and working in the IT sector for the past two years. I want to learn a foreign language as a hobby, that would be easier to learn as well as could help me in the future in a professional way. You have mostly suggested people learn Spanish, German, or French. Which language should I learn among these four?
I usually don’t suggest any particular one until there is a specific purpose other than vague “career.” Since 80% of language jobs come from top 5. That is why I recommend these popular languages. Of 4 choices, Spanish is the easiest, French and German offer more job possibilities, and Russian is your liking but the most challenging with fewer job options. In short, a combination of hobby, easy, and career benefit is not possible.
Sir, I am interested in pursuing Italian. Will it provide good opportunities in the field of business?
Possible!
Hi Sir, I pursued BTech (Mechanical) in 2010 and now working as Senior IT Recruiter (a part of Human Resource in IT industry – US Process). Sourcing the IT profiles from different job sites according to our IT clients’ requirements and scheduling interviews of those consultants with our clients is my job. Can you please suggest the best foreign language for me to learn and excel in this industry?
Pick between French, German, or Spanish.
Hello, sir, I am just 12th pass. I am proficient in English. So which language should I learn? Thanks
Well, you can learn any language of your choice!

Sir, I have just cleared my 12th exam with biology with 65% Mark’s, and I want to learn a foreign language. Sir, which language is most helpful in the future and also tell me which language is on more trending now.
There is no particular or best language as such. You can pick one from the top 5!
Sir, I’m planning to immigrate to Europe. I would like to know about which language and country will boost my career in Europe as like their natives. I am a graduate in commerce, and my interest lies in accounting, finance, and management. I’m looking for masters there. What is your suggestion, sir?
You need to discuss this with any overseas education consultants.
Hi, I have done BBA along with masters in French. Currently working as a French language expert but looking at the current market situation, I can see french will have no importance in a few years. I am planning to learn a new language, and I am confused should I go for Chinese or not. I already know three languages – English, French, Hindi.
Mandarin is a good choice!
Sir! I’m doing Bsc (CBZ).! I want to know which foreign language I should prefer further as well as during my graduation?
There is no particular language that mixes well with Bsc (CBZ). Thus, you can pick any language of your choice.
I have done a BA from DU and currently struggling with my career. I want to learn a language that has great demand in India. While reading, I got confused between German, Japanese, and Spanish, which language I should prefer?
Well, this is something you have to decide. I’d suggest you spend some time reading about various languages and I’m sure you will able to pick the right one. Since no one language fits all, thus, I don’t recommend any particular language.
Great article, sir.
Sir, I have completed class 12 from PCM and now doing BA prog can you suggest which language would be perfect for me.
There is no perfect language. Pick as per your subjective and objective goal.
Hi sir,
Now I have completed Graduation, What should I do in the future which is the to me?
Well, only you can decide. If you have any specific question, let me know!
You haven’t mentioned Turkish. Actually, I have cleared JMI entrance for ba Hons Turkish language and literature, but I am a little confused about the course! Can you please brief me a little about this program, it would be beneficial.
Turkish is low demand and low supply language. If you have got the interest in the Turkish language, you should continue with it. JMI is the only University with BA in Turkish program.
Sir, I am 10th pass student. I want to learn French because I want to be an international guide. What I have to do? Please answer sir.
Firstly, complete 12th, then you can pursue a Bachelor in Travel and Tourism. You can also join any French Institute. After completing your graduation and achieving an upper intermediate level in French, you can appear for the Linguist Guide exam conducted by the Ministry of tourism. Check — Career as a Linguist Guide.
Sir, I am a graduate. I want to learn Korean because I like that language and interested in it. Sir, I want to know should I learn this language or not? If I learn this language, whether I will get a job or not. Please tell me.
If you are passionate about studying Korean, learn that. To minimise regret, you’ll need to follow your heart. Career-wise, Korean is low supply-low demand language. Since very few people achieve higher levels. Thus, getting a job is not tough even though the number of Korean openings is limited.
Hi Aisha,
Do you like the language for KPOP/KDRAMA? If yes, you should try the Korean Cultural Center in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi. You can ask their consultants. They also arrange Korean classes, or you can visit Delhi University or IGNOU too.
Sir, I’m a postgraduate in commerce but don’t want to work in the corporate sector in the fields of account and finance. I want to learn a foreign language which I can learn in 1 -2 years and get a job in India either in the field of teaching or as translator /interpreter. I’m from Chandigarh. Sir I would like to know which language I should opt for. What pays to except after learning the language and institutes (with reasonable fees) in Chandigarh which imparts foreign language training.
I normally don’t recommend a career change for two reasons: Firstly, one has to start from scratch, and it might take a long time to settle. Secondly, there is also no guarantee at the end. If you wish to become a successful teacher, translator, or interpreter, it might take 3-5 years! Therefore, my suggestion is to continue doing what you’re good at and simultaneously pick one between French, German, and Spanish as a hobby. Once you achieve higher proficiency in the language involved, you can explore new opportunities!
Check — Language Courses in Chandigarh. All the best!
Thank you Sir. I will consider your valuable advice.
What is the best language to learn, if someone wants to migrate to another country?
Which country? The choice of the language will depend on your target destination!
I am a Political Science Teacher, However, want to learn a language. In what sector except in teaching it will help? There is already high competition in the supply of German, French, Spanish learners, Chances of selection will be minimum. Which language should I learn and from where?
There is always some opportunities provided that you have achieved higher proficiency with relevant experience. The high demand almost always leads to the overcrowded market. Having said that, French, German, or Spanish still offer plenty of employment opportunities.
If you wish to learn an ambitious language, then pick between Japanese, Mandarin, or Korean. Once you have decided the language, I’ll suggest you some good learning centre for the same.
Hello Sir, I am working in accounts in MNC BPO company in Chennai, India and now I would like to learn a foreign language. Guide me which language is easier, good pay and helpful for me for a long career in India and abroad. Thanks
Since Mandarin, Japanese and Korean are not easy to learn. Therefore, you can pick between French, Spanish or German.
Hello sir, I have completed my BTech in civil and I’m interested in learning foreign languages. Is learning foreign languages with my BTech degree is beneficial, and can I learn opt 5 languages at a time. Please guide me sir. Thank you
It will be beneficial but only to a limited extent. No. Pick only one language and stick to that. Spreading yourself thin is another way of not giving each language the attention it deserves.
Hi Sir, I am Narayanan. I have experience in Banking sector-Operation, planning to settle in a foreign country, pls advice which language can choose a further job with the same domain.
It is better to decide the destination first then language. The choice of language will vary depending on the location. If there is nothing in mind, you can pick between French, German or Spanish.
Hey,
I have just passed 12th grade now I have applied for the certificate in Turkish. Is this right step? And what should I choose in first? Thanks.
I guess you applied at Jamia Millia Islamia. There is no right or wrong step! There are only steps on your language learning journey. In addition to a certificate in Turkish, you also need to take admission in any bachelor program. Read, Think and take an informed decision. My views are usually restricted to languages.
Hello Sir, my brother has completed his graduation in B.tech (EEE), but he doesn’t have good %. He is interested in learning foreign languages. Which language would be good to learn for his career?
German, French, and Japanese are the three best foreign languages for engineers. Since learning Japanese will be a more time-consuming experience. If he is not ready for that, he can pick between German or French.
Hi Sir,
I read your posts related to languages however would like to know from which level of clearance will job of translator be available. Specific to Chinese and Japenese.
To become a successful translator, you need near-native level proficiency in both target as well as source language. You need at something like JLPT N2 in Japanese or HSK Level 5 in Mandarin.
my friend has completed his Geography Hons graduation, which language is best for him to learn as per the career perspective.
French, Spanish, German, Japanese or Mandarin. All 5 are equally good.
Sir is it possible to choose a part-time course as I am completing my B.Sc biotechnology course and I wanted to choose between Japanese and Korean language. And also work as a translator.
Yes.
Dear Vikash,
I’m from Travel industry, and I have a 9 years experience in this field. Due to covid, the Travel industry is badly impacted. Now I have some time so, i want to do language either German, Spanish, or French. Can you please advise one language and the best online institute and duration to opt?
Thanks in advance.
All three are good choices from a career perspective. So, it is more to do with personal preference. Whatever you will pick, you won’t regret it. Where you want to learn? I can suggest you some good options with some details as per your current location.
Sir, I have done graduation and I got 2nd div so I can get admission for the french language?
Where? You can definitely enroll in any private institute since admission is done on the basis of first-come, first-served.
Hello sir, my name is Harendra and I had done MBA in marketing currently I have 3 years of experience now m thinking to learn a foreign language but I m confused that which foreign language will help in my career.
Knowledge of French or Spanish is a valuable asset for careers in sales and marketing. If you don’t have any particular choice, you can pick one between these two.
Hello sir
I am a mother of a 5th-grade student like to introduce a foreign language to my son which is best at this age and useful for his future.
While there is no best age, it is however relatively easier for a Child to learn a new language than an adult. Well, at least in most cases! He can start learning a new language now slowly and gradually and by the time, he will start his professional career, he will be fluent in one or two foreign languages.
Sir,
For a student who is taking a career in commerce, which language is best for career, French or German, also put the view from the ease of learning point of view at the level of 11 & 12th standard commerce.
As far as the difficulty level is concerned, Spanish is definitely easier than German. There is no such thing as “Best Language for Career”. It depends on several subjective and objective factors.
Sir, I want to learn the Italian language. Is it demanded language?
Low Demand and Low Supply! It implies there are fewer jobs, but the number of people studying Italian is also very less.
Hello sir,
I have completed graduation in Eng (hon) and pursuing M.A in Eng and I’m in teaching by profession. Which language do i opt for my profession?
Well, you have already chosen English as a teaching profession. If you wish to add a foreign language, you can pick any language of your choice. Currently, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Mandarin are the top 5 choices for language teachers in India.
Sir, I am Vikas and I’ve got a seat in EFLU in Ba Hons Spanish. I have completed my intermediate in BIPC (science stream). Is learning Spanish good for my career and will I get a job after BA?
Yes, it is good for your career. The job possibilities can open up depending on your level of engagement with the language. Moreover, after BA, you can also try for MA in Spanish.
Sir, I got 89.8% in 12th. I am planning to get admission in the department of Germanic and romance studies. I am so confused if I will get admission or not. I haven’t studied any foreign language in the 12th standard and I’m in a general category. I’m also confused which language is best in 2019 for a better salary and jobs so I’ll get a normal job at starting easily.
90% might be okay to get the admission in the GRS department. You can apply when forms will be available and then wait for the merit list. There is no such thing as the best language. Choose whatever interests you.
Thank you sir , now I get a hope that I might get admission in the course
Wish you good luck 🙂
sir is there any rule or something in GRS department that if you haven’t studied that language in 12th standard then 5% marks will be deducted from the percentage or the total marks of the student who applied for that specific language course?
I guess, yes. They have introduced this rule sometime back. You can still get admission for BA without any prior knowledge in the same language.
hello sir, I’m confused between French or Spanish. Which one is best for career and important. You have to be great in english for this course?
Both are equally good and you can choose as per your personal preferences and future goals.
Sir, I’m pursuing BBA 2nd year. I’m a bit confused among 3 languages French, Mandarin, and Korean. As Korean seems easy to learn than Chinese. French has a similar script as English. So, it would result in easy to learn French. But, in my view, the Chinese will be more valuable due to future business policies. But it is way too difficult. Bit confused.
I don’t recommend a particular language because everyone has a different purpose, interest, learning abilities, time-frame, and access to language resources. The value varies, depending on your objective. While French and English share a similar script (Latin), but the French pronunciation is hard for English speakers.
All three are great choices, and that’s why I wrote several articles about these 3 languages. Take your time, and I’m sure you will make the decision that will be helpful to you in the future. Good Luck!
I really appreciate this wonderful post that you have provided for us. I assure this would be beneficial for most of the people.
I want to know that is doing Ba in foreign languages through private university good?? Do private universities such as amity provide placement? I am very confused about it. Please help.
Government Universities are usually better than Private Universities as far as Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Foreign Languages are concerned. I don’t recommend Amity.
Sir your article is very helpful to me, i’m BTS 2nd yr student from {ignou}. can u suggest me which Foreign Language is good for my BTS and how can help me in my future.
The French, Spanish, German, Mandarin, Russian, and Japanese seem to be the most important languages in the travel and tourism industry. If you cannot devout more than 2-3 years, then pick between one of the European languages.
Sir how much fees we have to pay and what qualifications we need?
For Which course? Each university and private institutes sets its own fees, so they will vary depending on type of course, and where you want to study it.
Hello Sir,
Thank you for complete information on learning languages and its opportunities. I am 30 year old woman, I had career in Finance and accounts but currently I feel that I need career change into language. Can you give me advice on which language I should learn and can I learn 2 languages at once and what will be the career opportunities for me, and approx. how much time I’ll needed to learn language start an actual job.
Thank you
Devyani
Normally, one should choose a language as per interest and liking. Picking a language depends on so many factors that one-on-one individual counseling is required. Unlike other sectors and domains, changes occur very slowly in the language field and that is why there are so many options. You’ll find plenty of useful information here and on LanguageNext blog that which will help you make an informed decision or wait for sometime when I start something interesting 🙂
Yes, you can learn two languages but I won’t advise. Learning two languages at once is good for hobbies but not for a career. If you want to be a successful linguist with a decent job and paycheck, it will roughly take 3-4 years.
I was thinking to learn Japaneses language. What will better to do? 2-year full-time M.A. in Japanese Language & Literature (from EFLU HYD) or join classes and complete JLPT?
Thank you
Without BA in Japanese or equivalent knowledge, it is no possible to pursue an MA in Japanese. You can try some reputed Japanese institute with a goal to complete JLPT N2.
Can you please guide me which institute in Hyderabad I should join for learning Japanese?
You can try Ramakrishna Math’s VIOL or VIFL. Unlike other cities, there are not many options for Japanese classes in Hyderabad.
Is online training can be a good option? and can you suggest websites?
I usually don’t recommend online courses for a variety of reasons. Not only you would need to be very disciplined but it also takes a very long time to learn. In addition, there is a lack of personal attention, group discussion, and interaction. The confidence building element is missing in online courses. I will write an article on that including a few suggestions, maybe in June.
Sir, Which are best institutes in Hyderabad to learn languages (any)?
EFLU, VIOL, Alliance Française (French), Goethe-Zentrum (German), VIFL are some of the good options. You can browse the entire list — Foreign Language Institutes in Hyderabad.
Hi there,
I am currently working in International bank’s webchat customer service department for over 4 years and want to apply in Singapore’s bank. Would it be helpful to pursue Mandarin language as it is also spoken in Singapore and increase my chances to grab the job apart from the interview? On the other hand, sometimes I plan to learn Japanese language in Delhi and move to Japan for further language studies. Which one would be beneficial?
Mandarin will be definitely helpful since a very third person speaks Mandarin in Singapore. Language-wise, both offer plenty of opportunities on the global stage. In India, Japanese is however more popular. There is just one caveat. Learning Japanese or Mandarin isn’t easy and it will take time. The average learner gets to the advanced level in three to five years, and possibly more, depending upon how much time you give.
The language choice is a subjective thing. It seems you like Japanese and one should always learn the language of their choice and start studying from the long term perspective say 2022 and beyond.

Hi Balaji,
I will update shortly.
Dear Sir, Thanks for your valuable article, I completed Bsc chemistry and working in pharmaceutical industry, which language should be helpful for me to learn easily because I am not proficient in English? is there any institutes in Mumbai?
You don’t need to be proficient in English to learn any foreign language. If language difficulty is the criteria, Spanish is relatively easier to learn. For Spanish, you can choose between Instituto Hispania, Academia De Español, Hispanic Horizons in Mumbai. Read – Spanish Courses in Mumbai
Sir I am pursuing MA in English and completed BEd. Please tell me which language I should choose to learn for career perspective.
Harsh
Well, all the top 10 languages mentioned in the article are good for a career. Choosing which language to learn is a very subjective thing. The best language to study is the one you’ve always wanted to learn. If you don’t have anything specific in mind, you have to spend enough time reading and gathering information. Then you will able to take the informed decision. Good Luck!
Respected Sir,
I want to make career as a MBA graduate in IT industry may be in India or abroad. So I would like to choose foreign language course according to my long term plan. Please suggest me regarding this.
Thank you
There is no one-language-fits for IT professionals. You can choose between French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. All 4 are popular languages in the IT sector. Since all are equally good. Thus, chooses as per your interest, target region, long term goal, and difficulty level.
Hi,
I want to know which language has more scope in future, as my son is in 6th std. And he wants to learn foreign language since this year.
The children usually learn a foreign language more easily than adults. There is only one caveat. The way almost all School teaches any language are outdated, only theoretical and lack speaking and Listening. Most schools are also planning to remove foreign language from 2020-21 due to Government two language formula. He can choose between French, Spanish and German. All three are equally good. After 12th, he can pursue major in the language of his choice and market trend.
Sir, I have learnt two foreign languages other than english. Is it possible for me to start my career as a translator or interpreter? Also I want to know about the career growth of a translator in India?
Which language and what is your proficiency levels? To become a professional translator, you need near-native proficiency something like CEFR C1 or equivalent or MA in the corresponding language in both the language (Source as well as the target language). There are plenty of career options as a translator.
Hello , I am actually wanting to opt for a foreign language but just confused about which language is in high demand and which can be beneficial in the future? Please guide me in choosing the best language for my better career opportunities.
Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to answer it. In-demand languages like French, German, Spanish, and Japanese are a little overcrowded. Thus, learning the one with higher demand does not guarantee success due to the ever-growing competition. I believe everyone should study a language that they like (my next article).
At the end of the day, every language offers some opportunities. If you have an inkling towards a particular language, go with it and If you don’t have anything in mind, create one through lots of reading and research. I’m sure you will do well.
Sir,
I’m a b.tech graduate with no idea regarding career opportunities in foreign languages. I wish to take up my career in this field. Can you please tell me the procedure for courses enrolling and further job opportunities.
Why to choose a career when you have no idea at first place? I would suggest not to rush. With 100’s of languages, courses and career options, it is better to spend few months to understand in a better way. Then you can choose the language and course that is suitable for you. All resources are here on this blog to read. Good Luck!
Sir what is the fee structure for Korean language course whether I should do a certificate course or advanced diploma? I’m pursuing journalism am I eligible for Korean course?
The certificate is a one-year course whereas the Advanced Diploma is 3 years! You cannot enroll in an Advanced Diploma before completing a Certificate and Diploma. Only Jamia and DU offer Advanced Diploma and fees are quite reasonable.
Since this is part-time. Thus, Anyone who is 12th passed is eligible. You should first read all the options and then decide which one suits you — Korean Classes in Delhi
Sir is it risky to opt for japanese seeing its difficulty even if one can give 3-5 yrs of learning. And also is it difficult to write japanese knowing complications of characters. And how’s the job demands for japanese profession in india?
Not at all. Yes, learning Japanese takes time but if you put enough effort and dedication, you can surely achieve the higher competence level in few years. Japanese offers plenty of career opportunities. Since very few people achieve higher proficiency, ability to speak Japanese will give your CV an edge and differentiate you from the crowd.
Sir I want to know that Is fluent English is necessary for language course?
No. Intermediate or even elementary level proficiency in English is enough.
Firstly million thanks for your great works sir,?
Sir I’m B.Sc Botany 1st yr student and at same time I want to make career in language (in jobs prospective) also. can it be possible from distance mode education? Please sir tell me whether Diploma is better or certificate and after that what’re the way for higher study after completing Diploma or certificate programme (Distance). Thanks sir.
No, Language learning through distance mode is neither possible nor effective. In most universities, Diploma is usually for 2 years whereas Certificate is for 1 year. If aim is career and jobs, it is better to pursue 3-years regular course (Advanced Diploma) in the language concerned. Certificate and Diploma is not enough.
Sir, I’m pursuing B.Sc chemistry but i’ve interested in Foreign language also if I pursue Certificate in Foreign language after completing what are the opportunity of jobs and higher study in language. Please reply sir thanks.
Unfortunately, there is no job opportunity after completing a certificate in any language. After certificate, you can continue with a goal to complete 3-year Advanced Diploma or upper Intermediate level proficiency from any good institution. This will help you to find a language job.
My brother is pursuing BE (Mechanical), which foreign language should be beneficial for his as per his sector? We are preferring either German or Japanese. Which is more beneficial in these two or apart from these two? Please advise.
German and Japanese are indeed two good options as far as the broad spectrum of the Engineering industry is concerned. Japanese is relatively more difficult than German. Additionally, Germany or Austria offers more opportunities for higher education. Career-wise, both are equally popular though he can choose German for the reason aforementioned.
Sir according to you which language is easy to pronounce in terms of indian origin people’s purpose? And also is french too overcrowded for a job?
Scandinavian Languages like Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and Romance languages such as Italian, Spanish, Romanian, and Portuguese are some of the relatively easier languages for Indian and English-speakers!
Hi,
I am interested in learning Norwegian. Can you please advise where I can learn it in India? I am based in Maharashtra.
I’m not aware of any Norwegian learning center in Maharashtra, or for that matter anywhere in India. Perhaps, you can try some books, online resources, and online tutor to learn Norwegian through self-study.
Hello sir, I’m pursuing English honors. But I have a lot of interest in programming languages like c, c++, html, python etc and I want to learn a foreign language that can benefit me in programming languages. So what foreign language should I go for.
Foreign languages won’t help you to pursue your interest in programming languages. You can pick a foreign language as a creative hobby and maybe in the future it will help you to find a job where language skill is an added advantage. Since you’re already doing other things, You can choose one of the easiest languages.

I want to be a successful Spanish translator, and i am in 12th standards after completion my 12th study, what should i do? How to proceed further study and experiences. Please guide me.
You can pursue a 5-Year integrated course ie. BA and MA in Spanish from any reputed University like DU, BHU, JNU, etc. You can also try a few private institutes with an aim to complete DELE C1/C2 in 3-4 years. To become a Spanish translator, one needs near-native proficiency.
Sir, this article is so inspiring but i have some doubts regarding this. It’s that to build a career in language as globalization is increasing day by day like in multinational companies is it important to have a b.com degree or MBA with a professional language degree?? Is business degree is important to work in MNC’s.
There are two kinds of jobs in MNCs.
(i) For language specialists – you need higher-level certification and proficiency in a particular language. This will take 3-5 years. MBA or any professional degree is not required though a Bachelor’s degree in any stream is a prerequisite.
(ii) For Language as an extra skill, you need some professional degree like an MBA from any reputed University. Experience and language proficient are optional and added advantages. Even Intermediate level in any In-demand language is enough which can be achieved within 2 years.
My job field will be BPO or Digital Marketing, I prefer Europe over USA, I want to do a day shift job. My qualification is MBA. which language is good for me to learn. Thank you
You can choose between French and German since both are widely spoken languages in Europe. As i said, all are equally good that is why different people have different choices. There is no better one. So, it’s up to you.
As you said many Bpo/Kpo sector has business from USA and they all are night shifts career. So,if some one learn Spanish here they also have to work on night shift or is there any circumstances for day shift. And which language is good for a digital marketer, French or German.
Not all jobs are Night-shifts. You can find plenty of Day-Shift Spanish jobs in various industries. You can choose any language between these three since all are equally good.
Sir,
I am your new commenter. I want to learn foreign language but I do not which language should I learn and which language has more important for professional at this time. Please give some idea for it. Need help. Please give some good institute name and address. Location – Uttam Nagar, Delhi.
It is difficult to suggest which language based on limited information. Top 5 can be a good start. Choosing which one to learn is an important decision. Read, Think, then decide. Take your time. Once you have decided, you can read Foreign Language Courses in Delhi.
Sir Good Evening,
I am an Accounts Manager (not a CA) but want to learn German. Because I have learnt it so many times but forget every time. What should I do? I have a question mark over my career. Should I change my learning language.
Learning a new language is always a new challenge. You don’t need to change the language. You need to follow only two things
(i) There is nothing wrong with studying a language to further career, but it is not as motivating as having a passion for that language. For example, finding your purpose can definitely help.
(ii) Once you have passion and purpose, the next step should be the “right method”. You also need a trainer who can guide you at every step. Studies have shown that how you learn a foreign language impacts whether or not you will actually follow through it.
Sir I want to learn Spanish, So where should i learn?
That will depend on where you want to study!
What is an average pay of a foreign language speaker?
There is no such thing as an ‘average package’. The salary will depend upon several factors like which language, role and responsibility, other academic qualification, proficiency level, experience, company, job profile, location, just to name a few.
Sir,
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Psychology and English Literature and have currently taken a year off to study Japanese and Korean at a private language school in Bangalore. I would eventually like to pursue a career in translation and interpretation. In the comments above, you mentioned that having a specialized background in IT or engineering would give one better prospects at acquiring jobs at, for example, Samsung or Toyota. I was wondering what some of the career prospects would be for someone with my background?
I intend to pursue my master’s degree in 2019 in either Media and Communication or International Relations. However, I would also like to know if pursuing my master’s in these said degrees, combined with a certificate of proficiency in Japanese and Korean will allow me to pursue a career in translation and interpretation in the corporate, IT or any other field? Or translation and interpretation in which field of work would be most appropriate for someone with my educational background?
Few points: 1) To become a translator or Interpreter, only language skills are required and for that, you need near-native proficiency in both the language (Source as well as the target language). This will take 3-5 years or more for only 1 language.
2 The certificate course has no real-life advantage. If you want to make a career in Japanese or Korean, you have to study one of the East Asian languages for at least 3 years to complete JLPT N2 (Japanese) or TOPIK Level V (Korean).
3) The combination of Engineering / IT / or for that matter any stream along with a language is definitely an added advantage on your C.V. However, even for that it will take few years to learn any language.
4) You can learn some Japanese or Korean or both in a few months and that is good enough as a hobby but from a career point of view, it has negligible benefits.
My Suggestion: 1) Choose one language. 2) Start learning part-time and continue for the next few years. 3) As of now, concentrate on your existing skills and master’s degree in Media and communication. Take Language as a secondary skill. Maybe in the long run, you will find something good enough.

Hello Sir! I want to learn Spanish for a batter placement, But my English is not as good as needed, And I am in +2 now, So what should I do, should I do 1 year Diploma in English first then Graduation in Spanish, Sir I am confused. Please Help.
Higher fluency in English is not mandatory for Spanish. English, however is an important international language. Therefore, you should improve it. You can pursue English course along with Spanish.
Thank you Sir for giving answer, After completion my +2 what should I do? Diploma or Graduation for Spanish. also If i don’t have graduate degree and i have command in English and Spanish language so can i get any better job?
Pursue Full-time Graduation in any subject and side-by-side also do some part-time Spanish course. With 12th, you will be eligible for mostly entry level jobs in call centres, kpo and bpo. Try to complete at least bachelor degree.
hello sir, I’m studying in 12th in Delhi preparing for my boards exams in march 2019 and I want to learn Japanese . so, is there anything for me to do right now like, filling admission forms and stuff ?? or which institution should I choose ? I’m too confused!!
There are three types of Japanese Courses in Delhi – (i) 3 year Full-time BA in JNU (ii) 3-year Part-time courses in DU Colleges (iii) 2-3 years short-term courses in any private institute with an aim to complete N2/N1 in 3/4 years. For option (ii) and (iii), you also have to pursue any Degree level course from any University.
For (i) option, you have to apply in the next few days and admission is through entrance exam that will be held in early 2019. For (ii) and (iii), you can apply after your 12th exam.
Sir currently I am a CA student and love to have foreign language in my profile but I am in dilemma which language should I opt as a commerce student and is there any criteria to learn any foreign language if yes please let me know. Thank you
Honestly, there is no “best” language to learn and why to choose a “particular one” depends on the learner. That is why it is difficult to offer a generic answer. According to me, Without having a good reason, one should never learn any language. Ask yourself a few questions like why you should learn a language in the first place? How much time you can dedicate say 2 years or 5 years?
All the pros and cons of each language (Top 10 language in this article is an excellent list), any specific goal, and so on. Once you are convinced enough about why and which, start learning it irrespective of which language you decide. This will take a few months of reading but that would be totally worth it. Good Luck! 🙂
Hello sir, I am doing my BA from kolkata I want to opt for one foreign language for my further studies can you please suggest which language I should study ? Also, what value does a diploma course in a foreign language has?
It is difficult to suggest which one. You can choose anyone from the top 5 as per your liking or preferences. For all the options in Kolkata, you can read – Language Courses in Kolkata.
I almost read all your articles. I am undergraduate studying bsc computer science. I am going to pursue masters in either computer science or animation and i would like to go abroad to work. So considering my field which is preferable language?
That will depend upon the destination since IT skills are required in over 50 countries. It is better to concentrate on your ongoing career and learn language in future as per requirement. Another option – Learn French or Spanish since both these languages are spoken in over 20 countries. It can add more value to your C.V.
Which is the best language between German and Spanish for certificate course? I want to make career in foreign language teacher in government or private institutions. I want to do certificate course of foreign language from st. Stephens college, DU. I am pursuing B.com honours from University of Delhi.
There is no best language. There are dozens of good reasons to pick any particular language. It’s all about personal preference. The DU admission process will start in May 2019.
Sir, I really like the way you have written this useful article. I read your blog every week. I want to learn Italian because I like it. Should I learn? Also what is the best institute in Delhi for Italian course? Thanks
People can learn a lot especially when they have an interest in learning a foreign language. Since you have the interest, you should definitely learn it. The best place to learn Italian in Delhi is Istituto Di Cultura (Italian Culture centre) in Chanakyapuri.
Sir which is best French language institute in pune?
Alliance Française followed by Pune University (French Academics) and SIFIL. Read — Foreign Language Institute in Pune
Dear sir,
First of all thank you so much for the marvelous work you have done, choosing a language to learn from so many options is really a pretty confusing task and often frustrating too, moreover all the content in the internet is geared towards USA and yours is the best and most detailed study regarding the Indian scenario. so thanks a ton. My question is.
I am 28 year old chemical engineer working in the environmental engineering sector, I am fluent in English, Hindi & Bengali. I wish to learn a foreign language for better prospects in India & abroad. Should I go for Japanese, Mandarin or Spanish?
Thanks for your appreciation 🙂
It is quite difficult to choose one. My personal preference is Japanese, followed by Spanish and Mandarin. Japanese isn’t easy and if you are ready to study for a few years, go with Japanese otherwise Spanish.
Dear Sir,
Thank you so much for your guidance. Since time is not a constraint and I wish to learn the language in depth, I am willing to dedicate 3/4 years to it. Moreover I have a very close friend who is on the same page with me and I guess having a regular partner enhances your practice. So Japanese it is. Thanks a lot Sir.
I wish you all the best in your studies. 🙂
Hi sir. I’m working in General Insurance Industry. I’m interested to learn foreign language so that I can work there in future. As of now I would like to know if there are any part time jobs / part time teaching jobs that’ll be available after I complete the course. EFLU Hyderabad and Ramakrishna Math Hyderabad are offering beginner level to Advanced diploma courses in foreign languages like German French Arabic etc. Pls advice which language would be best for part time jobs/home based jobs.
There are not many part-time jobs for Language learners. I have rarely seen anyone working in two different fields including languages. That’s because learning a language takes a long time, at least a few years. Both part/full-time job requires an equal and significant fluency. Part-time does not add the required experience and quite hectic too.
Additionally, Recruiters prefer specialists in a particular field. Teaching does offer part-time options. However, it is quite inflexible and thus requires full devotion to the profession.
From a Career perspective, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese are the top 4 languages. EFLU offers 3 years of part-time courses in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, Russian, etc. Ramakrishna Math offers 4 to 6 levels in German, French, Japanese, and Spanish. Both are good options.
Hello sir, I am working in a bpo sector in gurgaon and pursuing graduation. And i want to learn foreign language so that i will get a good job in national or multinational company. So please sir guide me which foreign language is useful for me?
Thank you.
French, German, Spanish and Japanese are top 4 options. Whatever you choose, you won’t regret. Over the past decade, The number of people seeking Jobs as a language specialist has increased significantly. Thus, to build a meaningful career, aim for higher proficiency that will take 3-4 years. There is no practical benefit in any short-term courses.
I am a housewife (37 yrs old). i want to learn a new language the reason is to divert myself from monotonous household work. kindly advice.
The benefits of learning a language are limitless! Learning a new language is a good hobby and at any age helps the brain. You can choose one of the european languages such as French, Spanish, or Italian.
Currently studying Bsc IT (First year) which language will be beneficial for me in future Spanish, Mandarin or Japanese. I would like to study the language for 2 or 3 years.
Between these 3 – I would suggest choosing between Japanese or Spanish. Since you only want to study 2-3 years that also part-time. Thus, Spanish is a better option since it is relatively easy.
Hi,
I’m working in Unisys as technical support. I’m thinking to learn language to build my career, could you please suggest which will suit me to grow my career?
Thank you
French or Spanish are good choices and can enhance your career in IT sector. If you are ready to devout next few years (say 40 hours per month for next 40 months), then Japanese or Mandarin are also good options.
Hi Sir, thank you for writing this article, it is very useful. I’m 27 year old, bcom graduate, currently working I’m bpo industry in finance and accounting. I want to learn foreign language for career perspective, confuses between Spanish and Italian, I’m not sure about the future opportunities of these two languages in India and outside India, could you please help me to choose?
From Career perspective, Spanish is better.
Hello sir, here I am a mcom student and pursuing Digital Marketing and SEO. I want to pursue my career in digital marketing and as well as in comic writing too. For foreign job opportunities I want to learn a foreign language. Which could be more profitable in field of digital marketing and being an interpreter? I am confused between Mandarin and Japanese. Reply soon sir! Thank you!
1) Foreign Language is an added advantage but not compulsory to get a job abroad.
2) For digital marketing, Widely spoken or a strong presence on the internet such as French, Japanese, Spanish, or German are the best choice.
3) As of today, the Japanese has an edge over Mandarin.
4) If you want to be a successful interpreter or content writer in a language say Japanese, it will take 3-5 years. Would you able to study for that long? Think about that! Spanish is not that difficult. I had studied all these 4 languages and I like all 4 🙂
Sir, I’d like to ask which place offers the best Italian language classes in Mumbai? As, I want to further move and settle in Italy. Is the Italian consulate in Mumbai offering any courses from beginner to expert level? Or do you suggest any other university/organisation in Mumbai offering the same?
Currently, the Italian culture centre does not offer any courses in Mumbai. Somaiya Centre for Lifelong Learning, and the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce (IICCI) offer Italian programs.
Sir please tell me after doing Chinese language course is there job opportunity in airlines. And if it is so, then tell me the what kind of positions or jobs are available in airlines.
I’ve rarely seen any requirement of any Chinese language specialist in any airlines. May be i am not aware. For jobs such as Flight Attendants, Pilots, Operations Agent, Customer service, Technicians, etc., you need some other skills. While Foreign language is an added advantage in the Airline Industry but it is not mandatory to know Mandarin until and unless you are working in one of the airlines of China or Taiwan.
Sir, good article.
How about learning persian? I am a native marathi speaker and I am into IT field. I have a passion for poetry and literature. Given the similarity in script I was thinking of learning Persian or Arabic. I am not sure whether I will be doing a career in these in the long run but I am sure whatever language I chose I will dedicate my time and effort as I am in love with the script and the phonetics and history / culture of these languages. Please let me know what are your views on Persian vis-a-vis Arabic.
Regards
Interest & passion are everything when it comes to language learning :). If your reasons are only poetry and Literature, then Persian. Overall (considering all factors from career to literature), then Arabic has an edge. While there are similarities in written scripts thanks to Perso-Arabic. However, Both languages are completely different.
Thank you for the reply. I have gone through your articles. Given that I am a working professional, I will not be able to join a college for a degree. So will a online-certificate of proficiency from say IGNOU or Islamic Online University suffice for getting work such as “Faculty, Trainer, Teacher, Translator, Interpreter, Proofreader, Editor, Researcher, Content writer, Transcriptor” ?
I know it takes years of learning and hard-work – but does the work profile of above nature require a formal degree? Do people look for a real college degree or an online certificate with good command should be fine.
I hate to say this but Online Language courses does not work. Certificate course are not enough for anything. For all the career options you mentioned, minimum requirement is MA in the corresponding language or equivalent knowledge and that will take 5 years of classroom study. Arabic or Persian does not offer International proficiency test in India. So, No other option other than pursuing courses in any centres for few years.
The degree or certificate for high proficiency is required for most jobs. The recruiters look for high proficiency and that level comes through formal education or degree/high level certification programs. Studying on own has very low success ratio and most companies don’t experiment due to enough supply. In addition, I’m not aware of any Online / Distance learning program which offers advanced level in any language. This is all about career and job opportunities. If you want to learn as a hobby, then you can try on own with whatever proficiency you can acquire.
Hi,
