Arts faculty doesn’t provide an Advanced Diploma in Japanese. They offer a 1-year PG intensive Diploma and a 1-year intensive Advanced diploma. If this is what you meant, you have to take the entrance for the Diploma course. You don’t need previous knowledge of Japanese.

Hello Sir, I’ve passed my 12th this year, and right now I’m doing a Certificate in Spanish from Daulat ram College. I also want to take admission in BA in Spanish Honours. So, I applied to the DU 4th cut-off list in the Department of GRS. But as I’ve not studied the Spanish language in my 12th that’s why after deducting 5% my percentage is not meeting the list. And I don’t think I’ll get my admission because after deducting 5% my % is only 73.50.

So, sir I just want to ask that can I take admission to the Department of GRS next year when my certificate in Spanish will be done? Will they consider it and not deduct 5%? Or they’ll still deduct 5% on my 12th best four?

To the best of my knowledge, they don’t deduce 5% only if one has studied Spanish in the 12th, and not a certificate in Spanish. As an alternative, you can pursue a degree program in any stream of your choice, and along with complete an advanced diploma in Spanish and take DELE A1 to B2. Knowledge wise, it will be as good as BA in Spanish.

Both offer different types of courses. For example, Gargi offers part-time programs, whereas GRS conducts only full-time degree courses in these two languages. If you are looking for a BA in English, along with a part-time German or Spanish course, you can consider Gargi.

It all depends on the choice of language and type of courses you’re seeking. For example, the GRS department does not offer a part-time course in French, German, Spanish, and Italian. On the other hand, DCAC college does not conduct degree programs in foreign languages. Every college has different criteria. You have to check with the respective college. But in most cases, they consider the best 4 if eligibility is marks obtained in the 12th.

The same difference between a degree and short-term courses. There is no better one. Pick the one as per your interest and career goal. If you want to be in the field of journalism, pick the bachelor in Journalism. Similarly, if your objective is a career in German, then BA + MA in German is an excellent choice. Irrespective of what you choose, you can always learn a foreign language part-time, along with a full-time UG degree program.

Only Arts faculty through the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies offers a full-time BA in French. The admission is based on merit-list, i.e., marks obtained in the 12th board.

DU does not offer a full-time BA in Korean. You can try JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia. The admission to both is based on the entrance test.

    Hi Vikash,
By when do you expect the DU colleges will reopen? Even if they reopen, would they risk it by taking the certificate courses offline too? I want to join the Spanish certificate course, but I’m not working in Delhi. Therefore, I won’t be able to attend any offline classes. Should I apply for the course in St. Stephens and hope that it remains online throughout?

No. If you are not in Delhi and are not planning to come anytime soon. Avoid! The certificate course is an offline course, and the current online sessions are temporary. Once they resume regular classes, whether it happens in 4 weeks or 4 months, online classes will stop. Plus, by May-July next year, things might improve to conduct an exam.

You can enroll in some private institutes. Most are offering online sessions irrespective of your location, and the quality is also better than DU at some of the centers. You can take the DELE diploma, which is more acceptable than a DU certificate.

If you wish to be a Korean translator, you have to pick a long term course, ranging from 2-5 years. You can choose any educational institution of your choice where the course is available.

You can choose Max Mueller Bhavan. It is the top-ranked German institute in Delhi. Besides, you can also try Language Pantheon, German circle, or German Language School. Private institutes don’t provide Certificates. After completing the levels, you can appear for the Goethe-Zertifikat Deutsch exam to gain a Diploma.

After completing the 12th, he can apply for DU. For private institutes, there is usually no eligibility criteria. The admission is mostly done based on firs-come and first-serve. While it is possible to make a career solely based on Spanish. However, I’d suggest going for a combination. For example, Bachelor and Master program in the in-demand stream along with part-time Spanish with a goal of DELE C1.

TOPIK Level IV will enable her to crack the entrance for MA. Besides, she can also try for a 2-year PG Intensive Advanced Diploma in Korean from DU through the department of East Asian studies. University courses might not be suitable. You can enroll in any reputed Japanese institute in Delhi. Since your aim is career enhancement, thus, you should aim for at least JLPT N2. After N2, you can apply to several companies as a Japanese language specialist. A caveat: You need to have persistence, patience and enough motivation since it takes considerable time to achieve a higher level in Japanese. Good Luck!

Usually, Diploma in Chinese from any recognized University is required for Advanced Diploma. Thus, it is difficult to get admission. You can check with the College. Even if you don’t get admission, you can aim for HSK Level V. It is good enough to get a decent job related to Mandarin. 祝好运 (Good Luck!)

One can add two language subject in bo4. I had 89.5% in 12th, and after deduction, it had been 84.5%, thus secured the seat in the 3rd cutoff.

It will be extremely difficult to track so many Languages and Colleges. Thus, pick a language and select few nearby Colleges from the aforementioned list. Then track 3-4 Colleges via their official website. Even if you miss to apply to a particular college. No need to worry. There are more and even better options beyond DU.

I’d suggest joining any reputed centre like Instituto Hispania in Panchsheel Park. They also offer a Spanish course on weekends and the fee is quite affordable. With some good teaching staff including natives, it is also an authorized centre for the SIELE exam in India.

The eligibility criteria vary greatly from one College to another and requirements change every year. When the forms will be available between the 2nd to 4th week of June, You can check the eligibility criteria of these 16 Colleges and apply accordingly. Choose a nearby College!

There is no age restriction. You can definitely try. There is one problem. Most of the part-time classes are conducted on weekdays either in the morning (7 to 10) or evening (4 to 7). Very few Colleges offer weekend classes and there is no way one can know in advance.

Of course, he can make a career in languages irrespective of past academic qualifications. The choice of language should never be forced but it should be done through personal interest and long term goals. He can try for DU’s 2-year full-time PG Intensive Diploma. Once he cleared the SLAT test, he can choose between Korean (KF-1) or Japanese (JF-1). No prior knowledge is required in the corresponding language.

DU does not offer such a course. Visva-Bharati, Central University of Jharkhand, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth are few options you can consider.

DU through various Colleges offers a part-time certificate course in French. Of course, you can apply but DU won’t be very helpful to you. If you want to learn French, better to join any French institute in Gurgaon. Read — French Course in Gurgaon.

For a bachelor in French, there is no entrance test. But to get admission, one needs, on average, between 80% to 90%, depending on cut-off marks.

You have not failed but success seems to evade you. While knowledge of foreign language offers plenty of opportunities but the certificate is not enough. Due to the competitive job market, Advanced Diploma or B2/equivalent is a prerequisite for a decent job.

These types of language courses will take roughly 3 years. I’d suggest finding a job using your existing skills and at the same time learn the language of your choice. In the long run, the right mix will benefit your career. Good Luck.

Japanese and Korean are two unrelated languages. The knowledge of one won’t help in others. You can pick one as per your goal and interest. Learning two languages simultaneously may not be a good idea. Since University may not be feasible for working professionals. Thus, you can enroll in any good institute.

In DU, you are eligible for both a 3-year part-time Advanced Diploma from Daulat Ram or 2-year Full-time Advanced Diploma (KF-1,2) from Arts Faculty through entrance test. Admission for both will start in May/June. You can also try a private Korean institute in Delhi.

There are opportunities but there is only one caveat. The number of Korean specialists jobs are limited and most of these jobs require a very high level of Korean proficiency. This might take 3-4 years! This is possible if you are truly interested in learning Korean, and not just K-POP and K-Drama. 🙂

Government Universities are better because (i) Fees are very nominal and you will never be concerned about fees. (ii) They usually hire only eminent and highly-qualified faculty. (iii) The university organizes regular conferences, seminars, events, and sometimes also offer scholarships and exchange programs since many Indian Universities have MoU with numerous Universities abroad.

The better, however, does not mean you can’t be successful by studying in any pvt institutions. In the end, only knowledge matters! There are few private Universities like Amity with a BA in French program though I don’t recommend it. The admission for MA in French is done through an entrance test and only eligibility criteria is Bachelor degree. You can crack the entrance only on the basis of French skills. It does not matter where you have studied.

I’d suggest you to continue your French at AFD and try to complete DELF B2. Then your knowledge will be enough for DU or JNU entrance test for MA in French.

For BA in French, DU cut off usually goes upward of 85%. You can try JNU entrance test. Last date to apply is 15th April. As per your situation, private institute is more realistic option for you. For MA, you need knowledge equivalent to BA/Advanced Diploma in French or DELF B2. Thus after B2, you can try for MA entrance test.

Few points: 1) For BA in French, admission in DU is done only on the basis of marks obtained in the 12th. Your bachelor’s degree won’t make any difference. 2) Knowledge wise, Advanced Diploma and BA in French is more or less the same. Thus after Advanced Diploma or BA, you should try for the MA entrance test for French. After MA, M.phil and Ph.D. is possible.

If you want to learn French, DU is not the only option. You can also try a 2-3 year course in a good institute. Fees will be on the higher side but the quality will be usually good.

Why you need to do Advanced Diploma? In my opinion, DELF B2 is better than Advanced Diploma from DU. Since you’ve already done B1, you can continue studying at AFD with a goal to complete B2 and then C1. Bonne Chance!

No. For a Certificate or full-time BA in German from DU, minimum eligibility criteria is 12th. You can try one of the good institutes.

Yes, you are eligible. The weekend option may or may not be offered by the respective College. You have to check the class timing when the admission process will start in May/June. Thanks to the rising demand of the Japanese language in India, there are plenty of good options in Delhi.

While language do offer plenty of career opportunities. It has its own strength and weakness. For example, language learning is a long process and takes 2 to 5 years. There is no benefit of short-term courses. To spend a considerable amount of time, you need everlasting motivation and proper reasons. Only you can decide about that. I’d suggest you to spend some time reading about languages. Eventually, you ‘ll able to take informed and right decision.
