Persian Courses in Delhi

The Persian language, also known as “Dari” in Afghanistan and “Tajik” in Tajikistan, has 62 million native speakers and 110 million speakers worldwide.

It is a language almost as beautiful as its region of origin. Persian is one of the predominant tongues of central Asia.

Persian or Farsi is the official language of Iran. The Persian speaking region has produced some of the greatest and influential ancient Persian poets like Saadi, Rumi, Ferdowsi, Hafez, and Omar Khayyam.

There are many advantages of learning a language like Farsi.

The ability to speak Persian opens the door to one of the most distinctive Middle Eastern cultures, such as Afghanistan (Dari and Pashto), Turkmenistan (Turkmen), Kazakhstan (Kazakh), etc.

You may not know, but you might already know a slew of Persian words, including a bazaar, candy, caravan, caviar, lemon, kebab, naan, orange, pajama, paneer, pashmina, pistachio, samosa, shawl, sitar, spinach, sugar, and typhoon, among others.

Persian Learning Centers in Delhi

If you wish to pursue the Persian course in Delhi, you can opt for the following stated list of Colleges, Universities, and institutes.

Although there are not many options, these are some of the well-known learning centers you can consider. Additionally, two Universities offer a Pashto language course in Delhi.

Persian Institutes in Delhi

1. Persian Course at Delhi University

There are two types of Persian language courses at Delhi University.

One is at the Department of Persian through Arts Faculty of DU, and the second option is either St.Stephen’s or Zakir Husain College.

(i) Zakir Husain Delhi College, Ajmeri Gate, Delhi

Zakir Husain College holds the distinction of being in existence well before the establishment of Delhi University. Affiliated to the University of Delhi, The Department of Persian at Zakir Husain College offers BA (Hons.) and Masters in Persian.

The total number of seats is 18. The MA in Persian also covers Modern Persian literature, classical Persian literature, Indo-Persian literature, etc.

(ii) St. Stephen’s College (School of Asian Studies)

St. Stephen’s Centre for Languages intends to promote the study of various languages, literature, and cultures. School of Asian Studies (SAS) offers Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma courses in Persian.

(iii) Arts Faculty (Department of Persian)

Established in 1922, The Department of Persian is one of the oldest departments in Delhi University.

The Department of Persian at Arts Faculty offers a 1-year Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, MA, Ph.D. doctorate research, and a diploma in Persian advanced translation interpretation.

2. JNU — Centre of Persian and Central Studies (CPCAS)

The language courses at JNU enjoys a reputation for excellence in foreign language teaching in India. Starting in 1971, the center of Persian and Central Asian (CPCAS) studies holds a prominent seat of Modern Persian Studies all over India.

The center also excels in translations, covers intensive studies of the Persian-speaking region, Indo-Iran Relations, Ancient Iranian Studies, history of Persian language, and stylistics in Modern Persian literature.

The CPCAS holds an entrance examination for admission to BA (Hons.), M.A., M.Phil, Ph.D. programs in Persian and Central Asian Studies, covering the entire gamut of language, literature, and culture of Iran; Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkey.

The center also offers a certificate of proficiency, BA, and MA in Pashto, and Optional courses of Turkish are being taught here with professional skill and scientific methods.

3. Jamia Millia Islamia (Department of Persian)

The language Courses at Jamia is famous for teaching and research various foreign languages.

The Persian department at JMI is one of the most sought-after in learning Persian in India. It has developed its seminar library, having more than one thousand important Persian books.

Pashto, Kazakh and Turkmen Courses in Jamia, Delhi

Other than Persian, Jamia Millia Islamia also offers part-time courses in Pashto, Kazakh (Official language of Kazakhstan), and Turkmen (Official language of Turkmenistan).

If you are looking for Pashto, Kazakh, Turkemenian, Arabic, Turkish, and Persian courses in Delhi, JMI is the right place. Department of Persian Offers courses:-

  1. BA (Hons.) and MA in Persian (Total Seats 60 / 30)
  2. M.Phil and Ph.D. in Persian.
  3. Certificate / Diploma in Modern Persian (Seats: 40 each)
  4. Certificate / Diploma / Advanced Diploma in Pashto (Seats: 10 each)

Persian Classes Delhi

4. IGNOU (School of Foreign Languages – SOFL)

IGNOU – School of Foreign Languages (SOFL), in collaboration with Iran Culture House New Delhi, IGNOU, has initiated a 6-month regular certificate program in Persian.

The course provides a basic working knowledge of the Persian Language and Iranian Culture.

5. Persian language course by NCPUL

The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Government of India. Set up to promote, develop, and propagate Urdu and Persian language. 

The Council has launched a ‘One Year Certificate Course in the Persian Language’ through Urdu and English medium for those who have no prior knowledge and are keen to learn it.

Presently, 24 Persian Study Centers are running in 19 States and 23 Districts.

6. Iran Culture House, New Delhi

Iran Culture House, New Delhi, offers the Persian course in Delhi for the beginners and the advanced level with modern technique and Iranian teachers.

They have carefully designed the program for those keenly interested in developing reading, writing, and speaking skills. — LINK

      My Institute does not offer any Pashto course. You can try Jamia Millia Islamia. They offer a 1-year Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma in Pashto. JNU also offers Certificate through entrance Read – Foreign Language Courses in JMI

      Admission for Certificate in French in Jamia Millia Islamia is over for this year. You can try the University of Delhi or any Pvt. language centres.
