Sir, I am also looking forward to pursuing Bachelor’s in a foreign language (CHINESE or maybe JAPANESE). I did a bit of research and everything. I could find only the 2 best universities for foreign languages in India, i.e, JNU and the second EFLU Hyderabad (English and Foreign Language university). I am very confused between the two. Can you please help & suggest. I will be grateful to you.

Over 30 universities are offering BA in foreign languages. I wrote a detailed article on the same. Check → BA in foreign languages. While both JNU and EFLU are top-notch universities, JNU still has an edge. But both are good choices if you get the admission.

While giving a rough salary estimate is difficult, the scope is pretty good. Also, there will be no more M.Phil. After masters, you have to pursue Ph.D.

JNU conducts entrance for both BA and MA from May to July. You can try for BA since MA is only possible if you have already done graduation and your French skills are at least B2. Although very few offer placements, JNU and Arts faculty (DU), Jamia does offer job guidance.

BA in Korean is a good choice. Getting a KGSP scholarship is difficult due to fewer seats and a huge number of applicants. I’d recommend BA + MA in Korean if you intend to make a career in Korean.

I am pursuing B.com Hons from BHU, and I am currently in 2nd year. I want to pursue MA in the Chinese language. It’s not possible since I haven’t done a BA in Chinese. So what should I do in order to get admission in MA Chinese language from JNU? If I get a 3-year diploma course from HanYoo language institute, will I be eligible for MA from JNU? Or should I repeat my graduation? Which will be the best option? I will be humbled if you solve my doubt.

You don’t need BA in Chinese, but you do require skills similar to that to crack the highly competitive entrance test. And as per your situation, entrance is the only way to get admission to any Indian university.

I won’t recommend repeating the bachelor. So, you can study in any good language school, work hard, and prepare for the entrance in the next 2 years. Once you’re ready, you can apply for JNUEE and a few other universities like Doon University, CUJ, CUG, BHU, VBU, etc., offering MA in Chinese. Good luck Prachi. 🙂

It would be best if you put it as per your preference. Since the French cut-off is usually higher, picking Spanish as 1st choice is better.

If not, then what kind of exam? Because I haven’t learned anything about the Japanese language? Or which other colleges should I go to for MA Japanese?

It is not possible to get admission to MA in any foreign language without prior knowledge. The entrance test is compulsory and conducted in the same language you’re seeking admission. There are two options for you: Either try BA in Japanese/Korean. It may not be suitable for you as you have to repeat your UG. Instead, you can try one of the private institutes to achieve an advanced level.

You can also study Korean in one of the private institutes or the Korean cultural center at Lajpat Nagar. If your aim is universities, you can try entrance for JMI or DU Colleges like Daulat Ram and Ramjas. I wrote detailed articles on Korean courses in Delhi, as well as India. Check search or under the category of Asian languages.

There is no separate MA integrated course. It simply means, after completing Bachelors’s program, you can take direct admission to masters in the same language without appearing for the entrance test.

Integrated MA is not a unique course, but just a combination of BA + MA in the same language. It means once you complete the bachelor program, you will get direct admission in MA without going through an entrance test. JNU is no longer conducting the exam for the lateral entry in 2nd year and 3rd year. BA 1st year is the only option.

JNU, DU, BHU, and many other old central Universities don’t come under CUCET (Central University common entrance test). All these universities conduct their own entrance. For 2021-22, CUCET offers BA in Chinese, Korean, and German through CUG, Gandhinagar, and CUJ, Ranchi. You can check their e-prospectus if you’re interested in these two colleges.

To my knowledge, there is no Educational institutions in India that offer MA in German/Spanish in the distance learning mode. Other than the regular Master’s programs in your target language, you can aim to achieve C1/C2 in DELE (Spanish) or Goethe-Zertifikat (German). Knowledge-wise, these are good enough for a vast majority of jobs, but still, these are diplomas and not PG degrees.

I’m not sure since I don’t know Mandarin. You can check previous year questions to check your current ability in the Chinese language. But regardless of how you study, you should prepare really well since the total MA seats for outsiders are very few as admission is given directly to BA Chinese pass students of JNU.

Since everyone speaks Japanese in Japan, getting a job there solely based on language ability is difficult. You need other in-demand qualifications and relevant experience. There is no minimum or maximum salary, it depends on the job profile and many other factors.

There is no maximum age-limit at JNU for any course. Since most JNU courses are full-time, thus, you cannot pursue two regular programs simultaneously. Perhaps you can try some private institutes for part-time language courses.

So, does he has to attempt both the clusters or just for the languages he opted for? He wanted to know if he had to study every country present in both the cluster because then he will have to study more. B1 may not be sufficient to clear entrance. You need at least B2. The exam will be conducted in French, and questions will cover French language, literature, history, culture, and civilization of Francophone countries. Also, linguistics, translation, and didactics of teaching a foreign language are some of the syllabus’s areas. I’m not aware of any book. You can check the previous year question paper to get an overall picture.

Hello sir, I have done my advanced diploma in French from DU, and I have my B2 level certification from alliance française de Delhi. I want to appear for the MA entrance exam, but I have been told that there are only 3-4 seats for general category students, which is bothering me. What is the difficulty level for the MA french entrance exam and how should I study and what books can you suggest me to learn better. Please help me.

The number of seats indeed is few (Usually 3 to 7 for MA in French). It is quite a challenge to pass the entrance test. However, your B2 level can still help you. You can check the last 4-year question papers on the JNU website. (Link is there in this article), and start preparing for it. Good Luck Anjali!

Neither JNU offers part-time courses nor it is possible to pursue an MA without prior knowledge. You can try one of the reputed private language institutes in Delhi. But before that, she has to choose a particular language.

There is no separate question paper for Hebrew. The joint entrance test of COP will consist of GK, Facts about the country concerned, Aptitude test, and General English. You can check the last 4-year question paper on the JNU website.

Since choosing a language is quite subjective, thus, only you can decide. The courses and language vary greatly from one University to another. So difficult to suggest anything meaningful.

After Ph.D. one can become assistant professor and starting salary is normally between 6 to 8 Lakhs per annum. Additionally, It usually takes 10 years to complete Ph.D. (mostly in the same subject). Most people (at least whom i know) did for research and adding new contribution to knowledge in their subject. Making money is not the primary goal nor Ph.D. guarantee a good salary. After Ph.D., one can only become assistant professor. Only few become professor that also after 15-30 years of impeccable experience.
