PG is still 4-5 years away. However, you can now learn French and pursue degree courses after the 12th that will match your goal and interest. The choices of subjects and careers are pretty subjective and depend on many factors. I’d suggest engaging a career counselor. We also have a similar service.

It is difficult to get a job after college certificate. One possibility is to study on your own with the help of books, audio lessons, or perhaps a tutor, and then take the B1/B2 of the DELF exam. The diploma is accepted for jobs.

Hello Sir, I have a keen interest in the language. I have already studied French during my school and college time approximately for 4-5 years, and I scored 9/10 pointer out of 10 in college by self-study. I only lack grammar parts of the language, and yes, I do need to learn how to speak in the language. The main question is that if I enroll myself in studying it correctly, what kind of jobs I can get later on, and what are the career options after completing the course? One more question is can I get a job in French Embassy India?

No. For Ph.D. in French, you need an MA or M.Phil in French or similar stream/French knowledge. Besides, you also have to appear for an entrance test. And it is not easy to get the admission as the number of seats is very few. Maybe 20-25 in India. If you wish to seek a Doctorate program, first try to an MA in French through entrance test after DALF C1.

It is difficult to recommend a particular language without knowing the target country. French and Spanish are the two most widely spoken language as far as the number of countries is concerned. So, may pick one. While you can cover beginners level in a few months but to achieve an advanced level fluency, it will take 2-3 years.

With an extra emphasis on speaking and listening section, you can surely clear B1 or B2 after completing Advanced Diploma from DU.

You can join ILSC or any good French institute with a goal to achieve a higher competency level like B2. After completing B2, you will eligible for a majority of French specialist jobs.

Usually it takes 1 year to complete A2 (Beginners level), 2-2.5 years for B2 (Upper Intermediate level) and 3-3.5 years for C1 (Advanced). While it will take few years but at the end it is total worth. If you want to stand out in a overcrowded French market, DALF C1 makes sense. Bonne Chance!

Yes, JNU entrance exams are quite difficult. Don’t lose hope! I know many candidates who have cleared the JNU test. Exam will be held in May and exact dates are yet to be announced. The DU cut-off is usually around 85%. BA in French is a full-time regular course.

While good command over English is not compulsory to learn French. It is recommended and desired to have at least some beginner level knowledge. You can take some short-term courses.

Sir i have done b1 level french long time back in my B.A. pass graduation. Want to pursue further studies in French. I want to work as French teacher. I had been doing a bit of french tuition and making French olympiad question papers. Shall I go for M.A. in french. What should I take in second year of MA – literature or translation. Or Is there any French teaching diploma course in DU which I have once came across reading about in DU website. Please suggest.

For MA in French, you need proficiency equivalent to DELF B2 or BA in French. Since the number of seats is very few, it won’t be that easy to clear the entrance exam. You can try when forms will be available in May. I’m not aware of the French teaching Diploma course in DU. Both literature and translation are fine.

Alliance Française is a good choice though fees are on higher side. You can try ILSC (Malviya Nagar) or LanguageNext (Sector 18, Noida). Various Universities also offer French courses but admission is closed for 2018-19 session.

    Hello sir,
Thank you for the guidance. In context of the same, are there any online courses for foreign languages, which can provide proficiency over the language along with a valuable certification.

Language is an interactive course, and that is why Online courses are not very practical. While there are several options, but quality and certification are not the same as regular courses, you can try IGNOU for a French certificate.

Where? Last date is over for almost all Colleges and Universities in Delhi. You can try few private French Institutes like Alliance Française, ILSC, etc. Admission is done on the basis of first-come-first-serve and they start new batch in every 2-3 months.

What are the criteria to get a job in the Consulate of France in Mumbai?

Language is not the only criteria to get a job in French embassy. There are different departments and eligibility criteria are different for different jobs. From MBA in international relation to experienced HR. While French is an added advantage in French embassy or consulate, there are few openings where high level of French proficiency is required like DELF B2 or DALF C1.

Sir, I completed BSc(H) Physics from DU in 2017. Then I did MSc in Physics from DU for a year but decided to leave as I realised it’s not something I want to be doing anymore. Now I’m looking at a totally different career option in foreign languages. Which language should I opt, even though I have learnt that French would be the most beneficial? Also please suggest which institute in French would be the best for me. Thank you.
