Better not go for Chinese as the scope of mandarin is fading away. Low and underpaid with no job security. Chinese companies lay off their Indian employees very quickly without any prior notice. So much exploitation of Translator & interpreters by companies treat like untouchables no standards. Better go for Japanese, German, Spanish, Arabic, etc., instead of going for mandarin. Dont believe. Try asking those who are working professionals in this field.

Some companies accept those certifications, whereas many won’t. You can give the HSK exam in 2021. Till then, you can continue studying Mandarin. The current India-China relationship will have a negative impact in the short to medium term, but it is too early to say about the long term. Regardless of the relation between the two countries, you can always find some job opportunities.

Some of them are good. One cannot become a translator without having an excellent command over written Mandarin. It means one can read books, newspapers, documents, magazines, etc. – without having to look up a dictionary very often. If you pass HSK level 6, you can read roughly 5,000 words and over 2500 Chinese characters. This should be the minimum goal.

Choosing between govt institute or private, Sometimes it becomes difficult to choose between Govt institute or private for learning Chinese. Please consider the following factors
    1. Students should be limited in any language class.
    2. Language study material should be the latest (language improvise with time, then why not learning the material; the issue is – in universities, the latest books have not been used).
    3. Whether the Teacher / Institute is answerable to students for imparting excellent language skills.
    4. Mostly student opts for govt institutes for getting a degree in the Chinese Language with a purpose that this degree will help them to get govt jobs, however, during interviews, The interviewer certainly checks your communication and reading skills on Current affairs. Therefore, it is advisable to focus on Skills along with Certification mainly. You can appear for govt jobs with HSK Certification (HSK4) also.

BTW Mr. Vikash, Thank you so much for helping and guiding others.

In DU, Before the Diploma, you have to complete a 1-year Certificate course in Chinese. Most of the part-time classes in DU are held in the evening. You can still apply to a few Colleges and wait for final list/class timing. Then you can decide. You can also contact other institutes like YMCA, BVB, HanYou, and MeiYu.

Yes, you can learn Mandarin in Delhi. Communication courses are fancy words. It is meant for those who just want to learn basic speaking skills for an immediate requirement or to improve the speaking part once you already know Mandarin. It will take at least 2-3 years to learn Intermediate level Mandarin. If you’re okay with the duration, you can try one of the institutes like HanYou, MeiYou, or BVB.

You can try MeiYu or HanYou. If you’re ready for the full-time course, you can try the entrance for 2-year PG Advanced Diploma CF-1,2 from DU’s Arts faculty. You can appear for the HSK test, to get international recognized certification. In most cases, you have to find a job on your own. From a job perspective, it will take at least 3 years to learn Mandarin.

Unfortunately, there is no best or better language as far as career is concerned. Only the choice of language will not correlate to higher earnings. It depends upon multiple factors like language proficiency, experience, existing academic qualification, company, job profile, sector, temperament, etc. Spend some time to read more and then make an informed decision.

Many foreign study options available but the question is of career and time investment. Following factors can help to choose wisely:

        1. Trade level between the countries (country you live in and foreign language you are going to learn)
        2. The geographical distance between the two countries
        3. Compare Per Capita income (both countries)
        4. Population factor
        5. Number of countries uses that particular language

The Chinese Embassy affiliated institute used to offer a Chinese course at Green Park, New Delhi. I think they are no longer offering the course. Nowadays, the Confucius Institute (affiliated with the Ministry of Education of China) conducts Mandarin course. But there is no centre in Delhi/NCR. In Delhi, you can try MeiYu, HanYou, YMCA, or JNA. And wherever you study, you can always appear for HSK Test in Delhi recognized by China’s Ministry of Education.

If you’re interested in a full-time course, then Delhi University’s 2-year PG Intensive Diploma Course in Chinese (CF-1 & 2) is a good option. I’m not sure about your question. Either pursue BA in Chinese or Advanced Diploma or Professional course from any institute that will help you to clear HSK Level IV / V. From knowledge point of view, all 3 options are more or less same. After that, you can either go for PG/MA or HSK Level V / VI.

To get a good job, you need minimum Advanced Diploma or HSK – level V. After 3 years, you can apply to multiple jobs at once. Salary package will depend on your proficiency level, nature of work, and company profile.

Choosing the right language is very subjective and quite difficult to answer. What I or you like may or may not be good for a career. I’d recommend you read a lot at least for a few weeks and then take the decision. I’d suggest reading these three articles. 1) Which Foreign Language should I learn? 2) Why Most people fail to learn languages? 3) career choices in Foreign Languages.

DU does not offer any BA course in Mandarin. In Delhi, Only JNU offer such courses and admission is through entrance conducted in December. East Asian Department (Arts Faculty of DU) offers Full-time PG Diploma in Chinese through entrance test (conducted in May every year). You can pursue part-time Certificate in Chinese in few colleges and admission is not difficult. However, last date is over for session 2018-2019.

If you want to learn Mandarin in Delhi, try few private institutes like HanYou or MeiYu. You can always try some degree level course in various universities next year. Let me know if any doubt. 🙂
