Embassy Language Courses

Are you exploring foreign language courses in the embassy?

Look no further! Discover the first-of-its-kind list of embassies affiliated cultural centers and institutes in Delhi & India.

In the increasingly globalized economy, there are infinite incentives associated with languages.

The possible immigration, a dream for higher studies abroad, a language career, the pursuit of a hobby, and jobs that use languages are primary motivations.

And all these continue to drive demand for language courses in India.

If you’re perplexed about what language should I learn? You can read the best foreign languages for careers.

The increasing requirement for East Asian and European languages like French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, and Japanese and even less taught tongues, has given an impetus to foreign language teaching in India.

It has resulted in few embassies establishing their language institutes or cultural center in Delhi.

Some of them have a presence for the last few decades in Delhi and other parts of India.

Why Study Languages at Embassy Affiliated Centers?

The language courses in the embassy’s principal aim are to promote language, culture, traditions, and arts in India through the organization of varied cultural events, language classes, and activities.

Many embassies have also collaborated with many schools and colleges in India to promote the language and culture.

They support teaching material, foreign language teacher training workshops, events, and exchange programs for students.

They also foster the admission of Indian students to their country’s higher educational institutions.

They also organize different programs, i.e., music concerts, movie shows, seminars, art and photo exhibitions, cultural shows, and various other events.

Embassy Language Courses Delhi

Native and qualified teachers, jobs in embassies, exposure to a varied range of cultural events, an ever-growing library, and plenty of study material and resources are some of the great reasons to study at these cultural centers.

The vibrant, friendly & dynamic environment is an ideal way to embark on language learning.

There is one caveat — these classes are a little expensive.

They also prepare you for several international language tests like CELI, HSK, CAPLE, TORFL, DELE or SIELE, Goethe-Zertifikat, TEF Canada, DELF and DALF, JLPT, TOPIK, and many more.

Moreover, these organizations are also authorized examination centers for these proficiency tests. Therefore, you can also avail of a discount if you’re an existing student at the center concerned.

How is it different from Colleges and Universities?

Like Instituto Cervantes, SejongHakdang, RCSC, Alliance Française, Goethe-Institut, Camões Institute, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, and Japanese foundation main focus on the spoken and written part of the language due to time constraints.

However, they still do acquaint their students with the culture and literature of the language they teach.

Suppose you want to focus more on culture, history, literature, linguistics, etc., to become a college professor, researcher, translator. In that case, university courses are the right choice.

Besides, these centers don’t provide degrees like BA, MA, M.Phil., Ph.D.

Thus, if you’re looking for degree and language skills, Indian colleges and universities can kick-start a career in languages by pursuing a single course.

Foreign Language courses in embassy-affiliated language institutes are widely recognized as the most prominent centers to learn foreign languages in India.

The Chinese embassy doesn’t run their cultural institution to offer Mandarin courses, though you can study at Confucius Institute. For Spanish, Instituto Cervantes in Delhi is the only embassy-affiliated Spanish institute. The fee is between 15,000 to 17,000 per level, and they have several. It is expensive, but the quality is good. Admission is based on first-come-first-served.

It is not just the embassy’s affiliated culture center, but none of the educational institutions are offering offline classes due to the widespread of the COVID-19. You can contact them when they are starting regular classes. Maybe you can learn the beginner’s part online and then continue at the center once they will restart their regular courses.

I want to do any foreign language from DU (not in embassies like Goethe because it’s expensive). I heard that Spanish is one of the easiest languages compared to French, German, and Japanese. I know that French and German is better in embassies than du, but Spanish is easiest it does not have many things. So, can I be perfect in Spanish if I do an adv diploma from du? And is Spanish similar in both embassies and DU? I heard that DU does not cover much (like in the German Language) so Goethe is better. So pls tell me for Spanish.

KCC (Korean culture centre) in Lajpat Nagar offers Korean courses. The beginner’s level is quite easy. You can learn the Korean alphabet (Hangul) and basic phrases in a week. Beyond that, it is indeed a hard language. But if you have the interest and zeal, you will do fine. The Embassy of Turkey or any associated centre does not conduct any course in Turkish.

8 to 10 months of studying are not enough to get a decent job. If you really work hard, then it is possible to get entry-level employment in the BPO industry. Spanish, Portuguese, Italian are some of the relatively easiest languages.

Sir, does this mean that institutes like Oracle Language Institute, Langma School Of Languages, and School Of Spanish are not embassy related institutes? Means they do not have as much value as other embassy affiliated? I am asking because I want to pursue certificate course till b2 atleast or even c2 (or maybe diploma if getting the excellent opportunity by doing so) in any institute “whose certificate has a good value” so that I can get the job easily after doing the certificate.

No. None of the names mentioned above are affiliated to any embassy. B2, C2 are CEFR levels. No matter where you study, you can always appear for International proficiency test (A1 to C2) for the European language concerned. Most of the reputed institutions prepare for the same.

They offer Portuguese courses till the B1 level as per CAPLE (1.5 years) whereas DU runs 3-year Advanced Diploma. Whatever you choose, you won’t regret it.

The fees is 14,500 for weekday, and 15,500 for weekend courses is for only 1 level at Instituto Cervantes. The entire program (A1 to C1) is divided into 16 levels. Thus, it will cost roughly three lakhs, including books and DELE exam fees.

Most of these culture centre such as Instituto Cervantes (Spanish), Max Mueller (German), Mosai or JF (Japanese), RCSC (Russian) are near Connaught Place only.

There are no easy answers. Foreign Languages offer plenty of career options. However, job opportunities varies from language to language. No, it is not that easy to get a job in an embassy only on the basis of language skills. For different vacancies, there are different requirements other than proficiency in the corresponding language.

If you have the interest, you can definitely learn as a Hobby. You can use the language skills to read books in the corresponding language, or music or movie or travel abroad. Creativity is increased with the study of foreign languages. Don’t learn to make some passive or part-time income post-retirement. Not only it will be difficult but that will take long time. It won’t be worth in 60s. Use your existing skills and experience.

Learning online is not very effective and successful. Still, you can learn beginners level slowly and gradually. You can choose a relatively easy language such as Italian or Spanish or Portuguese.
