Portuguese Courses Delhi

If you’re interested in learning português, you can enroll at one of the Colleges, Universities, or institutes in Delhi to take a Portuguese course in 2026.

With over 250 million speakers, Portuguese is the 6th most spoken language in the world.

It is the official language of Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, and East Timor.

The demand for Portuguese in India is increasing due to the rising strength of Brazil’s economy and the growing relationship between India and Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking).

6 Top Learning Centers for Portuguese Courses in Delhi

If you are willing to learn the Portuguese language in Delhi, the capital city will not disappoint you.

I’ve got you covered with a comprehensive breakdown. Here is a list of renowned learning centers for Portuguese courses in Delhi.

Choose the option that best suits you.

1. GRS Department at Delhi University

Portuguese Institutes in Delhi

Students can study the Portuguese language and literature at the University of Delhi through the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies.

DU language courses are one of the most sought-after in the field of foreign languages in India.

An interdisciplinary study allows Delhi University students to integrate the education of the Portuguese language, literature, and culture.

The GRS Department offers a one-year part-time certificate, a one-year diploma, an advanced Diploma, and a full-time Intensive Advanced Diploma in Portuguese.

To my knowledge, no College affiliated with the University of Delhi offers a Portuguese course in Delhi.

Address: Department of GRS, Faculty of Arts, DU, Delhi.
Contact: 011 – 27666426 / 7725 (Extn. 1296).

2. JNU – CSPILAS

JNU Foreign Language Courses has built a niche for itself rather than aiming to be the best in India.

The Centre of Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Latin American Studies (CSPILAS) at Jawaharlal University offers education in Luso-Brazilian Studies.

Many students have completed an M.Phil in Portuguese, researching Brazilian history, traditions, literature, customs, and culture.

The Centre for European and Latin American Studies (CELAS) offers part-time certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma courses in Portuguese at its Delhi campus.

Each course duration is one year.

All language courses at JMI offer a multidisciplinary curriculum emphasizing history, culture, literature, and language.

4. Jawaharlal Nehru Academy of Languages

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Jawaharlal Nehru Academy of Languages in New Delhi has been offering a one-year certificate course in Portuguese since 2013.

JNA has divided the course into two five-month semesters, and you can earn a certificate upon completion of the second semester.

The fee for a one-year certificate is INR 12,500.

5. Brazilian Portuguese at LangÉcole

With highly qualified native Portuguese teachers, LangÉcole is another option for Portuguese classes in Delhi.

With a focus on teaching a small group of students, this institute is quite popular if you’re looking for Portuguese language courses in Delhi.

They offer programs at Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert levels in accordance with CEFR guidelines.

Plus, LangÉcole also offers customized courses, such as conversational Portuguese for business. Unlike Camões, which primarily focuses on European Portuguese and Portugal, this institute also covers Brazilian Portuguese.

The classes are designed according to CELPE-Bras (Proficiency in the Portuguese Language for Foreigners affiliated with Brazil’s Ministry of Education).

Address: LangÉcole, E-4, Defence Colony, Ring Road, New Delhi.

6. Portuguese Cultural Centre (Camões), New Delhi

Camões Institute – The primary role of the Camões Institute in India is to promote Portuguese culture and teach the Portuguese language.

It is likely the best institute in Delhi for learning Portuguese.

Instituto Camões

The Portuguese Embassy Cultural Centre in New Delhi offers Portuguese programs at basic, intermediate, and advanced levels (A1, A2, and B1) according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), as well as Portuguese proficiency tests (CAPLE).

It is New Delhi and NCR’s go-to authority on Portuguese culture and language.

Instituto Camões runs two batches in a year (Jan and July). The classes are held three times per week, and a certificate is awarded to all successful students.

It also employs native Portuguese teachers from Portugal, Brazil, and other regions worldwide.

It provides a more authentic view of how Portuguese is used in the world, rather than a purely theoretical approach.

The embassy-affiliated learning center also provides online courses, ranging from A1 (Portuguese for Foreigners) to C1 (Português para Estrangeiros).

The online Portuguese programs are available through the website of Camões, I.P., Lisbon, Portugal.

They also organize cultural activities like screening Portuguese movies for learners.

Address: Camões, 4 Panchsheel Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.

Right now the camões institute is not providing Portuguese classes offline and there online courses are not upto the mark . Like 28000 rupees for 12 online classes of 30 minutes each . Which one will you suggest after camões if i want to learn Portuguese or should i wait for more time to learn at camões only?

From where you got 28,000 INR for 12 classes? Their 1st level (A1) itself has 100 hours of teaching. I guess you saw their forever online courses? Try their regular courses that is shifted to the online mode if they are offering currently. Camões is definitely the best! You can also consider LangÉcole, though I’m not sure about the quality.

No. Diploma and B1/B2 are not comparable. If you want B1/B2 diploma, you can take CAPLE, conducted by Camões Institute, New Delhi.

We don’t offer any Portuguese courses. You can contact Camões Institute in Chanakyapuri. For the direct lateral entry, they might conduct an orientated test.

For courses and fee-related matters, contact the concerned learning center. It will usually take 2 years to achieve Upper-Intermediate competency in Portuguese. Read — Scope of Portuguese language.
