Hi Vikash, thank you so much for the detailed information on the foreign language courses. My question is, is there any college affiliated with Bombay University that conducts short-term online courses too?
Thanks in advance!
There maybe still some, but I am not aware of it. Earlier all were offering online during the Pandemic, and then mostly shifted to offline mode.
Hello sir
I want to learn Japanese language. What is the procedure for part time learning?
Check on the Mumbai University’s website about dates and procedures. Or try any private institutes.
Sir where can we pursue BA in Korean in Mumbai. Also, I cannot afford private institutes so are there any universities anywhere in India where we can apply for scholarships and how?
There is no option to pursue BA in Korean from Mumbai. I’m not aware of any scholarship program for learning Korean in India.
Sir is it true that mu is going to start Korean language education? If yes when will it start? I would really like to pursue ba in Korean.
I’m not aware of it.
Hii
Can I please get the link for enrolling? I can’t find it on the official website.
Not all options are available online. You can check the link parttimecourses.mu.ac.in for part-time language courses.
Hey, how many part-time certifications can I do at once from Mumbai University? Thanks.
I am not sure if there is any restriction, but you would have to see feasibility and class timing. 1-2 is enough, and beyond that would be difficult to manage.
Hi Vikas, my elder son wants to pursue graduation in French at Mumbai Universtiy, any idea about the process, do we need to fill a form ? If yes how do we get the form?

Hi,
Can you please let me know the admission procedure and criteria for the Spanish course at Mumbai University as there is nothing mentioned specifically here? Appreciate your help.
The admission procedure and dates vary and keep changing depending on the course. That’s why it is difficult to update all the time. However, you can visit the official website and the check department page.
Sir, please respond to my question asked above. Also, kindly compare various German levels done at Max Muller Bhawan, Delhi to B.A German from MU, Kalina. Which will be a better choice to pursue after class XII?
Max Mueller Bhavan also has a center in Mumbai. Both are good in their ways, but BA in German is better if you want a degree course. But if you intend to do graduation in any subject, you can study German at the MMB. Quality-wise, MMB offers more practical knowledge than MU.
I would apply for the course of advanced diploma in French. I have all the criteria fulfilled. I would like to enroll as soon as possible. If possible please provide me the contact details of a person from the French department. Please guide me with the admission process.
Thank You
For that, you have to contact the university, especially the department of French, directly.
My 12th boards have been cancelled and there are no updates when they will announce the results. So before the results get announced can I apply at some institute for japanese language course? If yes, then which will be the best one for me. I live in Mumbai.
Yes, why not. You can consider institutes like Fujiwara, Second Tongue, Cambridge institute, Excel academy, etc.

Not much idea about Sanskrit courses. For Spanish, there are many options to choose from. You can also study at one of the private institutions.
I’ve pursued BMS in Finance and Post Graduation in Banking & Finance. I have obtained a B2 level certificate (not appeared for B2 since due to Covid-19 exams are postponed). I would like to further pursue MA in French from Mumbai University. Would I be eligible for the full-time program and do I need to appear for the entrance test?
You are eligible, but you have to take the entrance exam.
Any university in Mumbai offering BA + MA Integrated program in French?
Through the Department of French, Mumbai University offers a 5-Year integrated (BA and MA) in French. Sophia College for Women and Amity also runs Bachelor in French.
Hi sir, I am chembur – Mumbai based. I want to enquire about the Spanish language. Will, you plz guide me to some good institute or Mumbai university diplomas. Will prefer offline classes with the full-time course. Thanks.
You can try well-known private Spanish institutes like Instituto Hispania, Academia De Español, or Hispanic Horizons.
I have done a diploma in French from Ranade institute of Modern European languages affiliated with the University of Poona. I wish to do an advanced diploma in French. Do I need to give an entrance exam or will I get admission without the exam? When is the course likely to begin?
I guess you still have to take the entrance, and questions will cover the diploma-level curriculum. But, you can confirm from the university.
I’m a final year degree strident majoring in physics. But I want to take up French for MA. I don’t have any proficiency certificate but I’ve studied French for two years as my second language. So before even applying for a college, I should have a DELF proficiency certificate? Is it okay if I take a year off just to take classes for the certificate?
You don’t need any French certification. But knowledge similar to BA/Advanced Diploma in French, or DELF B2 is required to clear the MA entrance test. If you really are interested in MA, you can consider preparing for it.
When MU is going to provide korean language?
No idea. Your guess is as good as mine.
Hello. I have completed A1 and A2 levels of German from Mumbai University (Kalina). And also from A1 to B2.1 from Goethe Institute (Max Mueller Bhavan). I failed 3 times B1 Lesen. I lose my confidence. I am thinking about pursuing a German B2 level from Mumbai University (Kalina). Because in Goethe, for B2.2, they need B1 to be clear. Also, I would like to learn Spanish and French too. I would like to ask you, can I do French and Spanish levels at the same time from Mumbai University (Kalina)? i.e., Weekdays Spanish and Weekends French.
And one more question. Is Mumbai University (Kalina) taking offline language classes now?
Instead of picking a new language, I’d suggest first complete German. You have already completed B2.1, continue and complete B2, and MMB is a better choice than Mumbai University. Yes, they have more levels, but it is there for a reason. If you want to continue from MU, then that is also fine. I guess they were about to start offline classes in February. You can confirm from them. Once you complete B2 German, you can start learning one between French and Spanish.
Hello, Myself Vibhuti and I am looking for BA in German course. I found about the Kalina campus. Would you please guide me about that place a little like your experience and a little something about exposure?
Sir, I studied French as my second language for two years. I’m preparing for my DELF A1 right now. If my French level is A1, am I eligible for admission in MU for MA French?
No. You need at least the B2 or upper-intermediate level to clear the entrance test.
I have done M.A. in Spanish language and have 9 yrs teaching experience. I would like to know which universities or colleges I can opt for as visiting faculty. I am looking forward to your response.
There are 100’s of Colleges and Universities offering the Spanish language. You can make a list of educational institutions in your region and then accordingly apply online, email, or visit and submit your resume in-person.
Hello sir,
I have completed giving my exams of masters in arts (English literature) and awaiting my results from YCMOU. I wanted to study a correspondence course in a foreign language. Please can you guide me? I am searching for a part-time course which will be only on Sundays in Mumbai.
You can consider IGNOU’s distance learning course in one of the languages. The better option would be to enroll in some private institute and opt for weekend classes. There aren’t many good corresponding programs in foreign languages, but you can find plenty of online language classes through teachers.
My daughter studying in 10th std. She wants to learn Foreign Languages for a career in an Embassy. She is interested in that. After the 10th, how to start for a Foreign Language course. Which subject is more in demand and achieve a great career. It is better to do a diploma and then a degree? For a diploma what is the procedure to get admission? As a career in Embassy, this is the right way or guide us in detail.
Please reply.
There is no special preparation for embassy jobs. She can pick the subjects, along with a foreign language as per her interest and long-term goal. After the 10th, she can learn a language through a private tutor or any nearby language institute. Then, as per the progress, she can take the exam to gain an international diploma. For example, DELE for Spanish, DELF for French, JLPT for Japanese, Zertifikat Deutsch for German, HSK for Mandarin, to name a few.
The choice of career is pretty subjective, and only a face-to-face career counselor can help. I can give many possibilities, but that would be quite generic and not based on an individual evaluation, skillset, and interest.
Arts or Commerce which branch is suitable? Can we get admission to HSC along with a foreign language OR only study a foreign language? Which is the most better and in demand in view of career progression?
Both Arts and Commerce are fine. You can consider a combination of a full-time degree course in the stream of your choice, along with a part-time foreign language program.
THANKS A LOT

Sir, kindly let me know what level is completed in the three-year degree course of BA in German, and what questions are asked in the Entrance exam?
The BA course is divided into 6 semesters, and the duration is 3 years. Unlike various German proficiency test, there is no level in the Bachelor program. I guess the last date is over for 2020-2021.
In the entrance test, the questions are related to language aptitude, analytical skills, English, and G.K. related to German-speaking countries. This was the case earlier, not sure the current one. Also, no prior German knowledge is required. Then based on entrance scores, they conduct a personal interview.
Thank you, sir, for your reply. So the syllabus in the BA course is an only theory related to German culture and language skills are not being taught?
What I mentioned earlier was the syllabus for the entrance test. The BA course covers both language and culture related to German-speaking countries.
Want to learn French and Arabic in Kalyan. Can you refer to the institue nearby of the Mumbai Uni Kalyan Division?
For French, you can try Alliance Française. There are limited options fo Arabic. You can check some of the nearby centers.
I want to do an intensive course in German and as well as translation from English to German and vice versa online. Is it possible? I am from Calcutta.
You can contact Max Mueller Bhavan at Park Street, Kolkatta. For translators, you need advanced ability like C1 or C2 in German. This will take a considerable amount of time. While you can cover beginners’ level in online mode, but beyond that offline classes at the center would be the right approach.
Can I get admission in Mumbai university on the basis of Mark’s in 12th for ba in German?
Yes, but MU also conducts a personal interview that covers general questions to test the candidate’s language aptitude and analytical skills.
Does Mumbai University cater degree course in Spanish? I want to get graduation done in the Spanish language. Sir, please guide me regarding this. I have appeared for HSC and waiting for the results.

I had asked few queries regarding foreign language two days back and waiting for the reply. Can you pl tell me what is conventional course in German for beginners? (Summer course). This is mentioned in MU site.
Already Replied. The 5-week summer conversational course covers the beginner’s level, German. This course is okay if the only goal is to learn some basic day-to-day conversation.
If the aim is a career, then at least a 3-year course is recommended. You can contact the department. Goethe-Institut is another good choice for German course in Mumbai.
Good morning.
My son is in 10th std, ICSE appeared for exam in Feb/March 19. We are staying at Nerul, Navi Mumbai I have few questions regarding foreign language
1) Which is the first popular foreign language in India? 2) Is vacation course for German language is available at MU in April or May 2019 ? If yes, pl share contact number to whom we can speak for admission 3) Can he do diploma while studying 11 std simultaneously? If Yes, from MU or is there any other good junior college in Navi Mumbai which offers this course? I will be grateful if you answer these queries.
Thanks
1) French is the most popular foreign language in India.
2) Usually No. Most of the courses offered by MU are either 6 months or 1 year. You can contact them.
3) No. It won’t be feasible due to class timing. It is better to start a language course after 12th. You can also try few private institutes or embassy affiliated centres like Alliance Française (French), Goethe-Institut (German), or one of the centers for Mandarin or Spanish.
I’m very much interested in learning German & Italian language, I’ve decided to do both the languages but I’m facing slight difficulty in choosing by myself so please help me in it. Which one should I first opt for?
That will depend on the purpose. If you want to learn as a hobby, choose either one. For higher studies in Europe, German is better. From career prospects, German offers more opportunities than Italian.
Plus, there are not many good options for Italian courses in Mumbai. You can choose German and try to achieve higher proficiency like Goethe Zertifikat Deutsch B2 before starting to learn Italian.
Can we learn two languages at the time??
In Mumbai University? NO. While you can definitely learn two languages simultaneously. I generally don’t recommend it. Language learning needs lots of time, dedication and persistence. It is always better to give proper and full attention than divided one.
Thank you so much sir!! And can we learn after our 10+2???
Yes, you can.
How many years does it takes to study language? And how many will it cost (amount) to study.
The fees depend on the type, of course, you enroll in and the type of institution you attend (university or private institute, for example). As far as the time required to learn a language — It depends on mainly 3 things (i) Language Difficulty level (ii) The proficiency level you want to achieve (iii) Methods and quality of teaching. It can vary greatly between 2 to 5 years! You can read — How long should it take to learn a language?
Sir can I have your WhatsApp number.
It will be difficult to reply on whatsapp. If you want to ask something in private, you can always email me. It is there in the contact page.

Yes.
My daughter studying in 10th std. She wants to learn Foregin Languages for career. She is interested in that. After 10th how to start for Foregin Language course. Please reply.
There are 2 steps: 1) Choose which language 2) Enroll in any nearby language centre. The choice of the centre will depend on which language or class timing as per convenience. Studying on her own may or may not work. Slowly and Gradually, she can learn 1 or 2 languages (till advanced level) in the next few years!
Then she can find a suitable job in the field of languages. Earlier a child starts learning a second language, the better! I wish your daughter the best of luck for her future.

For masters in the USA 16 years of education is needed, so after my graduation in Bachelors of arts I’ll complete my 15 years. Then will one year certificate course be counted as 16th year of my education under mumbai university?
NO. Part-time Certificate course won’t be valid. While 16 years of formal education is required for most Master’s program in USA. However, several American universities do accept 15 years. Excellent score in GRE/GMAT is the key. Few students also complete 1st year master course in India in order to be eligible for certain university in USA. Take the advice from an overseas education consultant.
