The scope of Italian in India is increasing as Italy is the world leader in many fields.

The culinary arts, interior design, fashion, robotics, graphic design, furniture design, shipbuilding, manufacturing tools, space engineering, construction machinery, transportation equipment, etc.

Many Italian companies, such as Fiat, Benetton, Banco, Gucci, Lloyd, Marconi, and Pinnacle, have established operations in India. They are looking for people who speak Italian.

Italian Classes in Delhi

1. Italian Course in Delhi University

If you want to pursue Italian language courses in Delhi University, you have two options.

You can choose either the Department of GRS within the Arts Faculty or one of the three Colleges that offer part-time certificates, diplomas, and advanced diplomas in Italian.

(i) Daulat Ram College, Maurice Nagar

Students can focus on the Italian course in Delhi at Daulat Ram College through the Center for Foreign Languages.

The center offers a one-year part-time certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma.

(ii) Ramjas College, University Enclave

In collaboration with the Departments of Germanic and Romance Studies, Ramjas College offers a one-year part-time Italian certificate.

(iii) St. Stephen’s College, University Enclave

The Center for Languages at St. Stephen’s College offers a one-year part-time certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma in Italian affiliated with the Department of GRS at the University of Delhi.

(iv) Dept. of Germanic and Romance Studies

The University of Delhi is a name that has established itself as one of the best universities in the country for high-quality education, research, and eminent faculty.

The Department of Germanic and Romance Studies has offered various full-time Italian studies programs since 1995.

Students interested in a degree in Italian can earn a BA, MA, M.Phil, and Ph.D. in Italian at DU through the GRS department.

The Italian programs offer an interdisciplinary curriculum emphasizing literature, history, language, and culture.

Admissions to UG and PG courses are based on cut-off marks and entrance tests.

Italian Learning Centres in Delhi

2. JNU – CSPILAS

The JNU language courses are the most sought-after foreign language programs in India.

Jawaharlal Nehru University’s School of Language, Literature, and Culture Studies conducts research and instruction in more than a dozen languages.

The Centre of Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Latin American Studies (CSPILAS) at JNU offers a one-year part-time Certificate and Diploma in Italian proficiency.

Currently, this program is on hold.

3. Jamia Millia Islamia – CELAS

The Centre for European and Latin American Studies (CELAS) at Jamia Millia Islamia offers part-time certificates, diplomas, and advanced diplomas in Italian.

The duration of each course is one year.

The Italian language courses in JMI also help students opt for professional careers, given the growing demand for Italian courses in India.

Admission to the certificate course is through written tests (85%) and an Interview (15%). In contrast, students must have completed the Italian certificate and diploma to be eligible for the diploma and advanced diploma.

4. Italian Cultural Centre, New Delhi 

Affiliated with the Italian Embassy in India, Istituto Di Cultura (Italian Culture Center) is situated in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. It is actively promotes the Italian language, culture, and education in Italy.

You can use the following resources: a library, an excellent Italian cafeteria, and more.

The culture center actively organizes major events, concerts, and art exhibitions.

Italian Institutes in Delhi

The Italian course structure aligns with CEFR guidelines and various Italian proficiency exams.

They have divided the entire course into six broad levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2, and further divided it into 2-3 sub-levels. Each sub-level is 54 hours long, and the fee is Rs. 9,500.

The ICC is the leading Italian language institute in Delhi/NCR. They also conduct international Italian tests such as CILS, CELI, IT, and PLIDA in India.
