1. EFLU Hyderabad
Today, the University has seven schools, 5 in the English Division, 2 in the Foreign Languages Division, and 26 Departments.
EFL University Hyderabad offers graduate, postgraduate Ph.D. research programs.
It also provides PG diplomas, short-term certificates, diplomas, and Advanced Diploma courses and degrees through distance learning.
The Hyderabad center has a Ramesh Mohan Library that provides research resources.
The library has a massive stock of nearly two lakh books, access to many international journals via various databases, e-books, CDs, videotapes, and inter-library loan facilities on request.
It has also digitized approximately 1,600 dissertations submitted by research students, which are accessible on the University’s website.

The Foreign Languages Division at EFLU offers courses in Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Russian from beginner certificate level or zero-level to Ph.D.

2. EFLU Shillong
Nestled among the pines in one of the most scenic cities of North-East India, it established the EFLU Shillong Campus in 1973.
The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) Shillong Campus offers certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma courses in French, Russian, German, and Spanish.
The teaching hours are approximately 150 hours per program.
3. EFLU Lucknow
The EFL University Lucknow campus, established in 1979, is housed in the Moti Mahal Campus, Rana Pratap Marg.
The sessions generally start in July every year.
Most of these Part-time classes typically begin in the mornings (7-9 am) or evenings (6-8 pm).
- Certificate in Russian, French, Spanish, and German (Non-Intensive Mode).
- Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Russian, French, and Spanish (Non-Intensive Mode).

Admission Procedure and Eligibility Criteria
- No prior knowledge of the corresponding language is required for admission to Certificate courses. However, for the Diploma and Advanced Diploma, if one has proficiency from an institution other than the EFL University, one must take the Entrance Test.
- For BA (Hons.) – Pass in the Intermediate/10+2 examination or its equivalent with 50% marks for general/OBC and 45% for SC/ST candidates, English is one of the subjects.
- For an MA, you need a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and a B1-level proficiency certificate or an Advanced Diploma in the same language.
- For Post-Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching of Arabic (PGDTA) – MA in Arabic / Arabic Literature/ Linguistics / Teaching of Arabic with 55% marks for general/OBC, 50% for SC/ST candidates.
- For Ph.D. – MA in a similar language with 55% marks for general/OBC and 50% for SC/ST candidates. Candidates are required to give an interview with the Head of the Department after clearing the Ph.D. The Entrance Test is conducted by the University every year.
EFL University Entrance Test
Admission to the BA (Hons.), MA, and Ph.D. programs is through all-India entrance exams.
All entrance tests, except for Ph.D. programs, are based on multiple-choice type questions on the OMR sheet and are electronically evaluated to eliminate errors.
The duration of each entrance test is two hours. Interview dates for Ph.D. programs will be announced later.

No. After the diploma, you can consider the Advanced Diplo. The lateral entry to BA 2nd year is not possible as both are different types of courses.

There are many universities like DU, Jamia, Kolkata University, Jadavpur University, BHU, BCU, Manipur University, to name a few. I wrote an article, “Korean courses in India,” that covers all educational institutions offering Korean programs with all details. Private institutions are usually better though very few are good ones, like KCC in Delhi, Chennai, Patna, and Kolkata.

Hello, thank you for providing concise information about the foreign languages courses. I decided to study the Chinese language around September 2020 and had checked the website for admission notification. But when it was finally posted around 7th January 2021, I missed it. Ever since I had been on the lookout for information about 2021-22 admissions for CoP in the Chinese language. The information is scarce – will there be another admission opportunity in July, as the 1st-semester exam results (for Feb 2021 batch) were released last week or so. Also, I understand that the selection criteria is point-based, which is not quite explained in any previous years’ notifications. I am B.Tech graduate, and had hoped my chances of selection will be higher. Can you please inform me how the points are calculated? Will there really be another opportunity for the September batch for CoP or is the admission only yearly?
CoP course is provided on an annual basis. Because of COVID-19, the last 1.5-year academic terms were quite uncertain with limited information. Moreover, most dates were delayed, it becomes a difficult task to track. Either you can wait for the CoP forms. Alternatively, you can also study at any private institute and take the HSK test to gain recognized diplomas.

No, a little French knowledge won’t help much. If you just want to study French part-time, you can consider one of the private institutes or Alliance Française. You will learn more practical French in less time. You can take the DELF test to gain a globally recognized diploma.

Without a good command of French, it is not possible to crack the entrance. One needs French knowledge similar to BA or Advanced Diploma in French, or DELF B1/B2.

Although I don’t track English courses, I guess you can apply for it. You need a good command of English and knowledge similar to English honors to pass the EFLU entrance for an MA in English.

I’m not aware of such degree courses. Maybe, you can consider a UG degree program in one language and simultaneously study another language part-time.

Since BA is a full-time degree program, thus you can consider only one. There is no best combination, choose the one as per long term goal and interest. To my knowledge, unlike JNU and DOON University, EFLU doesn’t offer a 5-year integrated course. However, you can reconfirm from university.

Previous year question papers are probably not available, at least not in my knowledge. Prior knowledge in foreign languages is not required to crack the EFLU entrance test. You can check e-prospectus to know the syllabus. Good proficiency in English is necessary for all the programs.

I understand your concern. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any coaching centre that prepares for EFLU or JNU entrance test. The entrance syllabus covers generic topics. Thus any good books along with previous year questions papers are enough. Wish your daughter all the best for the next year!
Sir, is there an entrance exam for any foreign language Certificate of proficiency? Or will they just filter the applications they got and publish the list for the number of seats they have?
There is no entrance test for the Certificate course. Application forms will be available online in June 2019. Admission is done on the basis of marks obtained in 12th. After completing the certificate, the candidates are eligible for direct admission to the Diploma and then Advanced Diploma. The classes for part-time are held either in the morning between 7 to 9 or evening between 6 to 8.

Sir what is the difference b/w advanced diploma and BA hons. and which one is more beneficial in regards of future in language area?
BA (Hons.) is 3-year full-time degree program whereas Advanced Diploma is 3-year part-time course. The course content of BA is obviously much more than Advanced Diploma. Also, bachelor is required for any job even if you pursue Advanced Diploma. Thus, BA is better!

You can try any book that covers entrance syllabus. I m not aware of anything specific. Also, JNU exam format has changed from this year. They are yet to publish the prospectus for 2019-2020.

Yes, EFLU is one of the pioneer University in the field of languages. Although they do offer placement to meritorious students (what i heard sometime back). However, one should not depend on it since number of good offers are limited.
