Hello, this is Sweta. I born in Sweden and did my primary education in Japan. After that my father left Japan and we returned to India, after my graduation without any preparation I wrote JLPT N5 (score 178/180) N4 (174/180) skipped N3, and also cleared N2. Now waiting for N1. So I am here to guide anyone who is interested to learn Japanese for levels N5, and N4 and then planning for other levels.

Based on your points, I suggest three options for you to consider:

      1. You can contact any overseas study consultant for in-demand UG courses in Japan.
      2. He can pursue graduation in the stream of his choice, along with part-time Japanese to achieve JLPT N3/N2. Then, he can do masters from Japan.
      3. UG + PG from India, along with Japanese till Advanced level like JLPT N1. Then some experience in India followed by job search in Japan.

Meanwhile, I would like to start learning the Japanese language for my career growth. I am searching for classes in Chennai, and you have mentioned on your website about Hayakawa but would like to check with you, similar to the Mumbai university program. Is there any university program conducted online for Japanese class, whether they take from Basic to an advanced level?

These days, nearly all institutes are conducting online sessions temporarily because of COVID-19. Once things improve, there won’t be such options. Plus, it is not as effective as offline programs. As of now, You can take any online courses that cover beginner’s level, but later, enroll for regular classes.

I just wanted to know all your opinions on what’s the trend in India for tutor salary? How much is hourly wage of Japanese tutors who have experience in Japan?

The salary for Japanese instructors varies greatly between INR 500 to 2,000 hourly depending on the competency level, experience, and location. Based on our profile, you can ask 1,000/hour. Initially, you can try to enhance your experience and references through a reasonable fee, and then gradually raise your remuneration.

While there are plenty of possibilities as a career in language, it is no more an easy choice. It takes a long time to acquire a language from a professional perspective. If you wish, you can choose one between Japanese and Korean, and enroll in a nearby reputed learning center. Good Luck!

I am confused about which institute. Is it suitable for the Japanese language? I had contacted both the Navis and Sakura institute. Navis N5 duration 140 hours whereas Sakura N5 duration 80 hours. Which one is best can you suggest to me?

Why not visit both centers, and then make an informed decision? The number of hours shouldn’t be the only criteria.

It is difficult to say which one is better. You can visit the shortlisted names and then take the decision. Usually (not always), an institute dedicated to only Japanese teaching is better than the one offering multiple language courses. Thus, the institutes like Sakuraa, Navis, Sayuri, JLS, Nili are better options in bangalore.

Age is no deterrent to learning. You can get a good job if your proficiency level is good enough. Generally, it will take three years to reach the Advanced level, and only 5%-10% achieve this. My suggestion would be to take Japanese as a hobby and see where you stand after one year. Then you will able to make the right decision regarding future prospects.

Learning Japanese In Japan (Any Good reputed School) is more effective than learning in India? Will it be a clever idea to send my son to Japan after 12th to clear JLPT?

That will depend on the purpose of Learning Japanese. JLPT does not assure an employer that one can communicate well since there is no speaking section. Since for most of the Japanese experts jobs in overseas market, native Japanese speakers are preferred. Thus, there is no major advantage in learning Japanese from Japan. There are some good Japanese institute in Bangalore and he can surely complete JLPT N1 in 3-5 years. It is better to pursue bachelor degree from India along with Japanese. Then may be he can go abroad for master degree.

If he has the interest, he should continue studying Japanese. He should aim for N1 in next 3-4 years. After 12th, he can pursue BA (H) in any language from top Universities like JNU, Pune University, etc. With high proficiency & merit, He might earn scholarship to study abroad in future. He has time to master at least 2 languages in next 7 years! Good Luck!
