For Diploma, you need to complete a certificate in Spanish. In a few colleges, they do take directly to Diploma, but the admission process varies. But in case of entrance, it would be similar to certificate program.

Rather than repeating BA, you can try MA in German if you achieve an advanced level by that time. You can also pursue in private institutes and can complete at least B2. You can work in BPOs, MNCs, export houses, educational institutions, digital marketing, the tourism industry. Plus, there are many opportunities as a freelance linguist.

You don’t need to search Google, but this article itself has all the information. Just check the headings (i) North Campus Colleges and (ii) South Campus Colleges. Pick the college offering a certificate in German. Then visit the site and apply. The last date is already over for most colleges. Still, you can check if admission is still going on. You can also study at any private institute.

Admission to BA in Spanish at DU is based on marks obtained in 12th, which was more than 90% this year. A1 to C1 is good, and after that, you can try entrance for MA in Spanish.

A certificate will only help in level 1 of TOPIK I. However, if you complete a 3-year Advanced diploma, you might be able to clear level 3 or 4 of TOPIK II. Do remember that TOPIK has a validity of only 2 years. If you want to study on a fast track, private institutes would be a better choice.

Different colleges have different criteria and timings for the certificate courses. Some colleges offer their certificate courses to only students belonging to the college itself whereas some colleges allow outsiders also. So you can go for the ones where outsiders are also allowed. There is no superiority of colleges in certificate courses but yes, fees may differ.

You can also take the entrance test for other universities like JNU, Doon University, EFLU, TMU, VBU, Bengaluru University, etc. You may require close to N2 level and do check previous year question papers to prepare.

Now I want to learn the Korean language and want to make a career in this language, so can you advise me on how to do it from Delhi university and what are the criteria.

You can try at one of the DU colleges offering a 3-years Advanced Diploma when the forms will be available in July-Aug. Alternatively, you can try any private institutes or Korean cultural center at Lajpat Nagar.

JNU and DU are the only two options in Delhi. If you’re ok with a private university, then Amity Noida is another choice, though not as good as compared to DU/JNU.

Yes, you can enroll. Before Diploma, you have to pursue a certificate in that language. It is based on the entrance, cut-offs, or sometimes, direct admission. It depends on the college and language. I’d suggest you pick a language and shortlist some colleges. When forms are available in July or so, you can apply for them.

Hi, I have a question. Are DELE exams still needs to be given after enrolling for a diploma/degree in DU? All I want to know is if we can directly go for DELE exams by self-study without studying from any college? The thing I want to know is, what value these DU colleges are adding vs self-studying if the end goal is to clear the DELE exam in any way.

              Please share your thoughts.

No, it is not important to give DELE if you’re studying at DU. But, DELE diplomas add value to your C.V. Self-study isn’t very effective, and the success ratio is very less. That’s why people do regular courses all over the world. But if one can study on own, one can give DELE without studying anywhere.

You are eligible to appear for the entrance test. However, you need knowledge equivalent to BA in the same language to pass the test. For example, if you wish to pursue MA in French, you need knowledge similar to BA in French.

You can pick between a college course and self-study, but it all depends on your goal. If you just want to learn randomly, it may not be beneficial. So, my suggestion would be to find a reason why you want to learn French in the first place. Admission in part-time courses is based on either cut-off or entrance, whereas for BA, it’s cut-off around 90%.

Hello Sir, I’ve passed my 12th this year, and right now I’m doing a Certificate in Spanish from Daulat ram College. I also want to take admission in BA in Spanish Honours. So, I applied to the DU 4th cut-off list in the Department of GRS. But as I’ve not studied the Spanish language in my 12th that’s why after deducting 5% my percentage is not meeting the list. And I don’t think I’ll get my admission because after deducting 5% my % is only 73.50.

So, sir I just want to ask that can I take admission to the Department of GRS next year when my certificate in Spanish will be done? Will they consider it and not deduct 5%? Or they’ll still deduct 5% on my 12th best four?

To the best of my knowledge, they don’t deduce 5% only if one has studied Spanish in the 12th, and not a certificate in Spanish. As an alternative, you can pursue a degree program in any stream of your choice, and along with complete an advanced diploma in Spanish and take DELE A1 to B2. Knowledge wise, it will be as good as BA in Spanish.

It all depends on the choice of language and type of courses you’re seeking. For example, the GRS department does not offer a part-time course in French, German, Spanish, and Italian. On the other hand, DCAC college does not conduct degree programs in foreign languages. Every college has different criteria. You have to check with the respective college. But in most cases, they consider the best 4 if eligibility is marks obtained in the 12th.

The same difference between a degree and short-term courses. There is no better one. Pick the one as per your interest and career goal. If you want to be in the field of journalism, pick the bachelor in Journalism. Similarly, if your objective is a career in German, then BA + MA in German is an excellent choice. Irrespective of what you choose, you can always learn a foreign language part-time, along with a full-time UG degree program.

Only Arts faculty through the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies offers a full-time BA in French. The admission is based on merit-list, i.e., marks obtained in the 12th board.

DU does not offer a full-time BA in Korean. You can try JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia. The admission to both is based on the entrance test.

    Hi Vikash,
By when do you expect the DU colleges will reopen? Even if they reopen, would they risk it by taking the certificate courses offline too? I want to join the Spanish certificate course, but I’m not working in Delhi. Therefore, I won’t be able to attend any offline classes. Should I apply for the course in St. Stephens and hope that it remains online throughout?

No. If you are not in Delhi and are not planning to come anytime soon. Avoid! The certificate course is an offline course, and the current online sessions are temporary. Once they resume regular classes, whether it happens in 4 weeks or 4 months, online classes will stop. Plus, by May-July next year, things might improve to conduct an exam.

You can enroll in some private institutes. Most are offering online sessions irrespective of your location, and the quality is also better than DU at some of the centers. You can take the DELE diploma, which is more acceptable than a DU certificate.

Once the process begins, you can apply online to the selected Colleges. If there is no online option, you have to visit the respective College. If you wish to be a Korean translator, you have to pick a long term course, ranging from 2-5 years. You can choose any educational institution of your choice where the course is available.

Private institutes don’t provide Certificates. After completing the levels, you can appear for the Goethe-Zertifikat Deutsch exam to gain a Diploma.

After completing the 12th, he can apply for DU. For private institutes, there is usually no eligibility criteria. The admission is mostly done based on firs-come and first-serve. While it is possible to make a career solely based on Spanish. However, I’d suggest going for a combination. For example, Bachelor and Master program in the in-demand stream along with part-time Spanish with a goal of DELE C1.

TOPIK Level IV will enable her to crack the entrance for MA. Besides, she can also try for a 2-year PG Intensive Advanced Diploma in Korean from DU through the department of East Asian studies. University courses might not be suitable. You can enroll in any reputed Japanese institute in Delhi. Since your aim is career enhancement, thus, you should aim for at least JLPT N2. After N2, you can apply to several companies as a Japanese language specialist. A caveat: You need to have persistence, patience and enough motivation since it takes considerable time to achieve a higher level in Japanese. Good Luck!

Usually, Diploma in Chinese from any recognized University is required for Advanced Diploma. Thus, it is difficult to get admission. You can check with the College. Even if you don’t get admission, you can aim for HSK Level V. It is good enough to get a decent job related to Mandarin. 祝好运 (Good Luck!)

One can add two language subject in bo4. I had 89.5% in 12th, and after deduction, it had been 84.5%, thus secured the seat in the 3rd cutoff.

Normally, there is no entrance exam for a Certificate course. The admission is done on the basis of marks obtained in 12th. It will be extremely difficult to track so many Languages and Colleges. Thus, pick a language and select few nearby Colleges from the aforementioned list. Then track 3-4 Colleges via their official website. Even if you miss to apply to a particular college. No need to worry. There are more and even better options beyond DU.

I’d suggest joining any reputed centre like Instituto Hispania in Panchsheel Park. They also offer a Spanish course on weekends and the fee is quite affordable. With some good teaching staff including natives, it is also an authorized centre for the SIELE exam in India.

The eligibility criteria vary greatly from one College to another and requirements change every year. When the forms will be available between the 2nd to 4th week of June, You can check the eligibility criteria of these 16 Colleges and apply accordingly. Choose a nearby College!

Before the Diploma, you have to complete a Certificate. Of 9 DU colleges offering a certificate in Chinese, you can select few and apply when forms will be available after Mid June. Since part-time courses are College centric. Thus, you have to apply separately.

There is no age restriction. You can definitely try. There is one problem. Most of the part-time classes are conducted on weekdays either in the morning (7 to 10) or evening (4 to 7). Very few Colleges offer weekend classes and there is no way one can know in advance.

Of course, he can make a career in languages irrespective of past academic qualifications. The choice of language should never be forced but it should be done through personal interest and long term goals. He can try for DU’s 2-year full-time PG Intensive Diploma. Once he cleared the SLAT test, he can choose between Korean (KF-1) or Japanese (JF-1). No prior knowledge is required in the corresponding language.

There are not many Universities with Bachelor program in Japanese or Chinese or Korean. EFL and BHU are two good options but the last date is over for the 2019-20 session. DU does not offer such a course. Visva-Bharati, Central University of Jharkhand, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth are few options you can consider.

For a bachelor in French, there is no entrance test. But to get admission, one needs, on average, between 80% to 90%, depending on cut-off marks.

You have not failed but success seems to evade you. While knowledge of foreign language offers plenty of opportunities but the certificate is not enough. Due to the competitive job market, Advanced Diploma or B2/equivalent is a prerequisite for a decent job.

These types of language courses will take roughly 3 years. I’d suggest finding a job using your existing skills and at the same time learn the language of your choice. In the long run, the right mix will benefit your career. Good Luck.

Japanese and Korean are two unrelated languages. The knowledge of one won’t help in others. You can pick one as per your goal and interest. Learning two languages simultaneously may not be a good idea. Since University may not be feasible for working professionals. Thus, you can enroll in any good institute.

In DU, you are eligible for both a 3-year part-time Advanced Diploma from Daulat Ram or 2-year Full-time Advanced Diploma (KF-1,2) from Arts Faculty through entrance test. Admission for both will start in May/June. You can also try a private Korean institute in Delhi.

There are opportunities but there is only one caveat. The number of Korean specialists jobs are limited and most of these jobs require a very high level of Korean proficiency. This might take 3-4 years! This is possible if you are truly interested in learning Korean, and not just K-POP and K-Drama. 🙂

Government Universities are better because (i) Fees are very nominal and you will never be concerned about fees. (ii) They usually hire only eminent and highly-qualified faculty. (iii) The university organizes regular conferences, seminars, events, and sometimes also offer scholarships and exchange programs since many Indian Universities have MoU with numerous Universities abroad.

The better, however, does not mean you can’t be successful by studying in any pvt institutions. In the end, only knowledge matters! There are few private Universities like Amity with a BA in French program though I don’t recommend it. The admission for MA in French is done through an entrance test and only eligibility criteria is Bachelor degree. You can crack the entrance only on the basis of French skills. It does not matter where you have studied.

I’d suggest you to continue your French at AFD and try to complete DELF B2. Then your knowledge will be enough for DU or JNU entrance test for MA in French.

For BA in French, DU cut off usually goes upward of 85%. You can try JNU entrance test. Last date to apply is 15th April. As per your situation, private institute is more realistic option for you. For MA, you need knowledge equivalent to BA/Advanced Diploma in French or DELF B2. Thus after B2, you can try for MA entrance test.

Few points: 1) For BA in French, admission in DU is done only on the basis of marks obtained in the 12th. Your bachelor’s degree won’t make any difference. 2) Knowledge wise, Advanced Diploma and BA in French is more or less the same. Thus after Advanced Diploma or BA, you should try for the MA entrance test for French. After MA, M.phil and Ph.D. is possible.

If you want to learn French, DU is not the only option. You can also try a 2-3 year course in a good institute. Fees will be on the higher side but the quality will be usually good.

Why you need to do Advanced Diploma? In my opinion, DELF B2 is better than Advanced Diploma from DU. Since you’ve already done B1, you can continue studying at AFD with a goal to complete B2 and then C1. Bonne Chance!

JNU offers 5 years integrated BA and MA in Japanese. You can apply now. The last date to apply for the JNU entrance exam is 15th April. Delhi University does not offer a BA in Japanese. You can try 3-year part-time Advanced Diploma when forms will be available in May-June and then MA in Japanese from Dept. of East Asian Studies (Arts Faculty – DU).

While language do offer plenty of career opportunities. It has its own strength and weakness. For example, language learning is a long process and takes 2 to 5 years. There is no benefit of short-term courses. To spend a considerable amount of time, you need everlasting motivation and proper reasons. Only you can decide about that. I’d suggest you to spend some time reading about languages. Eventually, you ‘ll able to take informed and right decision.

DU does not offer BA in Linguistic. Good English is not mandatory for foreign language courses. DU through faculty of Arts offers BA degrees in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic and Persian (Only 6). Admission is done through merit list and there is no entrance test. The cut-off is generally between 80% to 90%. He can apply in May depending upon marks obtained in 12th.

No. Direct admission is not possible. As per Dept of East Asian Studies, For KF-2 — Eligibility criteria is Bachelor’s Degree + 2-year part-time Diploma in Korean from any University or KF-1 from same Dept. Then there is also an entrance test at the end. In the prospectus, TOPIK is not mentioned. It is difficult to get any Scholarship for diploma courses. It is generally offered to degree level courses like BA, MA, and Ph.D. You can still contact them for confirmation.

The SLAT written exam is based on 4 sections — Language Aptitude, Reasoning, English Language, and G.K. & Awareness. Since the syllabus is quite generic. Thus, you can buy any book, which covers these sections. I don’t think there is any such website.

You can check the last year SLAT entrance paper (HERE) to get the idea.

As per master question paper for M.Phil in French, not only high proficiency like C1/C2 is required but also good knowledge of French literature, culture, and civilization. You need to study beyond the Advanced Diploma. You can prepare for the 2019 entrance test.

However, class timing may or may not me convenient and affordability are two reasons, many opt for DU Colleges. You can go with pvt. centres.

As per IGNOU website – “This BBP Programme is offered by the University to those students who wish to do Bachelors Degree of IGNOU but do not have the essential qualification of having passed 10+2”. I’m not sure if this is equivalent to 10+2 and possible to enroll in any course in other University where minimum eligibility is 10+2. You can contact DU admission department for confirmation.

Diploma and then Advanced Diploma are part-time courses. After completing Advanced Diploma in French, you can apply for MA in French from (Dept. of Germanic and Romance studies – Arts faculty). It is regular course and admission is through entrance exam. You can also apply for MA in French from JNU. Other than BA, MA, M.Phil, Ph.D., most French courses irrespective of Colleges or institute are part-time courses only.

College plays a very limited role as far as part-time language courses are concerned. All are affiliated to the various language department of Arts Faculty. They manage everything including faculty, syllabus, examination, etc. Not sure if College name is mentioned or not, but it won’t make any significant difference as all are more or less the same, and all are affiliated to Arts faculty.

In the end, Only Knowledge matters not the College. Regular courses are altogether different things and Choosing the right College is important.

Yes, you are eligible. However, not all courses are offered on weekends. Many colleges offer classes early morning or late in the afternoon on weekdays. Do check the timing as per your convenient before taking admission. Since language courses are part-time. Thus, most Colleges don’t have the prospects.

Required documents are DoB, ID/Address, Passing certificate & Marksheet (12th or Graduation), Character, few photographs, and SC/ST/OBC Certificate if required. One set of photocopy self-attested & Original for verification.

How will you pursue part-time courses in DU alongside PG course from Jammu University? I guess distance learning? Good luck!

For MA in Spanish, minimum eligibility is Bachelor degree in any subject from any recognized University. Two-year diploma is not enough. Moreover, Good Knowledge in Spanish is also required since Admission is based on written exam and then viva-voce (Both exam will be in Spanish only). DU offers placement provided that you are good in Spanish.

The fees varies by college, but generally between Rs 5,000 to 20,000 for certificate courses. St. Stephen’s College fees for Certificate in French is Rs 18,000 (Weekdays) and 20,000 (Weekends). Cut-off depends on total application. More applicants, higher cut-off and vice-verse. Choose few good Colleges (try nearby Colleges), apply and wait for cut-off.

St. Stephen’s College online application form will be available from 10th June whereas, for Ramjas, the Admission process will begin from 4th June. French, German, and Spanish are the three most popular and important languages to learn. If you are learning for a hobby or traveling or going abroad to study or just want more skills in C.V., the certificate is not compulsory.

However, If you want to make your career in languages, a certification can prove your competences, enhance your résumé, and can thus help you to get an invitation for a job interview. In starting, a certificate can easily make you stand out from the crowd and beneficial to start the career. For success, Knowledge matters & not certificate!

Eligibility is a Bachelor degree + Advanced diploma in the language concerned (Equivalent to B1). Candidates have to qualify in the Entrance Test + VIVA-VOCE Exam. Few seats are also reserved for students who have completed BA (Hons.) in the corresponding language with 60% marks from D.U. Admission is through Merit List / Cut-off (No Entrance).

Both French and Spanish are a good choice for a career though French has an edge.

Of course, it is possible. However, I don’t recommend learning two languages simultaneously. My suggestion is to start learning a language, reach at least intermediate level, or when you’re confident with the corresponding language, then start the second one if you want to. Most people struggle while learning two at the same time and get confused between the two languages. Moreover, language learning requires lots of time. It may not be possible for most. However, It’s a very individual thing.

Several Colleges affiliated to DU offer Certificates in French. Limited options in D.U. as far as a Certificate in Arabic is concerned. Jamia Millia Islamia also offers a Certificate in Arabic. If you have to choose one, French is a better one. Good luck with your language endeavors, whatever approach you decide is best for you!

Without prior knowledge in German, it is difficult to get direct admission in Diploma courses. First, you need to pursue Certificate in German. There are dozens of Colleges from where you can do Certificate course. After completing the course, you can enroll yourself for Diploma (Direct admission for those who have already completed Certificate from the same college).

For PG courses, Question paper will be in the corresponding language. Knowledge of Advanced Diploma in the language concerned or B1 level (CER) or any other equivalent qualification is required to appear for the exam.

Every department has it’s own syllabus. Generally, admission in UG courses are based on merit list / cut off marks. If there is entrance, then (i) Language Aptitude ii) Reasoning (iii) English Language Ability and (iv) General Knowledge and Awareness.

For PG/Masters course – Knowledge in the corresponding knowledge (equivalent of B1-B2/Advance Diploma) is required.

Since there is no such thing as “Best Language for a career”. Thus, pick the one that appeals to you in many ways. Maybe you like a particular language that you’ve always wanted to learn. You can also choose as per your goal or future planning.

I have already answered your question. You can achieve B1 once you complete 3-year Advanced diploma. DU courses do not follow the CEFR model of A1-C2, though the Advanced diploma is close to B1. You have to practice to improve speaking and listening as most colleges don’t focus a lot. If you want better quality, fast-track, and can afford a higher price tag, enroll at Max Mueller Bhavan. DU part-time courses are ok, but they can’t be compared with top institutions like Goethe-Institut.
